Samsung‘s first Galaxy A series smartphone of 2023, the Galaxy A14 5G, is getting its first software update. The budget handset is picking up the January security patch. The latest SMR (Security Maintenance Release) has also reached a couple of other budget Galaxy devices, the Galaxy A12 Nacho and Galaxy A03s.
The January SMR for the Galaxy A14 5G is currently rolling out in a handful of Asian markets, including India and Sri Lanka. The updated firmware version for the device is A146BXXU1AWA2. Samsung’s official changelog mentions the latest security patch and some system stability and reliability improvements. So don’t go deep looking for new features. The changes and optimizations to underlying systems may still enhance the overall performance of your phone, though.
Samsung should soon release the January security patch for the Galaxy A14 5G in other markets, including the US. Meanwhile, if you’re using the Galaxy A12 Nacho, the new SMR is available for your phone as well. The rollout has begun in a host of European countries with the firmware build number A127FXXS7CWA1. SamMobile confirms the update in France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain, the UK, and several other countries in the region. This phone was never released in the US.
The Galaxy A03s is another Samsung smartphone that is getting the January SMR. This budget handset is also picking up the new security release in Europe. The update bumps the firmware version of the phone to A037GXXS2CWA3 or A037FXXS2CWA3, depending on the model numbers. Galaxy A03s users in the US should also pick up the latest security patch soon. As usual, you can check for updates by navigating to Settings > Software update > Download and install.
January security update for Galaxy devices patches over 70 vulnerabilities
Samsung has been rolling out the January SMR to eligible Galaxy devices since early this month. Over the past four weeks or so, the company has updated several dozen Galaxy smartphones and tablets to the new security patch.
It continues to add more models to the party. The firm has already revealed that the latest SMR patches more than 70 vulnerabilities, the vast majority of which were labeled “high-severity” flaws.
With January nearing its end, Samsung may soon release the February security patch. The rollout may begin later this week. There’s another interesting thing happening for Samsung fans this week. The company will launch the Galaxy S23 flagships on Wednesday, February 1st. We will keep you posted.
