Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed that the Threads app will soon be available on the web, and a search feature is also coming to the app.
Threads is the latest initiative from Meta to battle Twitter (now rebranded as X). Despite a great initial reception, the reports revealed that the app is losing its active daily users with Meta planning for ‘retention-driving hooks’ to keep users engaged.
As a part of this plan, Meta wants to bring new features to the app to enhance its functionality. A web version and a search feature were among the highly demanded features. The good news is both are coming to the app soon. According to a new tweet from CEO Mark Zuckerberg, “Search and web coming in the next few weeks.”
Threads will soon have a web version, but can it replace X?
Zuckerberg added that despite a lot of work ahead, he’s excited about the team’s pace of shipping. The Threads.net domain is still inactive and invites users to install the app through app stores or by scanning a QR code. However, Threads will soon go live on its website, and we’re keen to see how it differs from X. The original Threads app was criticized for being a clone of Twitter and offering no innovation.
In the initial days of Threads launch, we said we could have a better judgment about the app when the excitement around it settled. Threads could hit 100 million signups sooner than any other app in history, and it can certainly hit higher signups thanks to Instagram’s massive user base.
Threads is still an immature social media app and has a long way ahead to become a perfect platform. However, the biggest problem with Threads is the lack of innovation and authenticity. As a user, you might ask yourself: What new thing does Threads offers that Twitter (X) doesn’t? This is a question that Zuck and his colleagues must answer.
The story of Clubhouse could be a great teacher for Threads. As a quick reminder, Clubhouse was a social media app that experienced skyrocketed growth during the pandemic. Still, when the dust settled, users left it for older and more authentic platforms.
