YouTube has a long history of inviting people to try experimental features before pushing them to the masses. These options, as you may know, are often only available to select users. YouTube is at it again, as the platform is now testing two new experimental features for Premium subscribers: “Recommended videos in Premium queue” and “Faster speeds.”
YouTube testing a feature that adds recommended videos to the queue
Before you get too excited, these experimental features are only available to select YouTube Premium users. Starting with “Recommended videos in Premium queue,” its name is quite descriptive. This option aims to offer personalized recommendations directly into your playback queue. It’ll further help you to discover and add new videos to the queue easily.
You might be curious about how to get recommended videos in your queue. You’ll first need to add a video to your playback queue. Next, you’ll need to open the queue to discover more recommendations curated for you based on your viewing habits. You can tap the three dots to add the video to the beginning or end of the queue.
While we expected these recommended YouTube videos to complement the video content you may be watching, that may not be the case every time. AndroidPolice notes that the videos you’d see are generally “pulled from your general recommendations.” However, that doesn’t change the fact that this feature could save you some time. Once available, you won’t have to go back to the app’s homepage to search for something new to watch, for instance.
Although YouTube says that this experimental feature is only available on Android, the outlet has been able to test it on iOS devices too. Moreover, this experimental feature is available to test until April 7, 2025.

The platform is also testing 4x playback speed
In addition to the recommendations video queue, YouTube is also testing another feature related to playback speed for Premium users. As part of the test, people can watch videos at 4x speed, which is double the current 2x playback speed limit.
If you are an eligible user, open the YouTube app on your mobile device and navigate to the settings menu while playing a video to alter the playback speed. Furthermore, this experimental option will be available until April 7, 2025, on the YouTube app for iOS and Android.
