YouTube has been making more than a few minor visual changes to the YouTube Music interface over the past couple of months. Now, according to 9To5Google, the Listen Again shelf on YouTube Music now has a grid design. This is opposed to the single-lane shelf that was present before.
Not too long ago, YouTube changed the icon for the Smart Downloads button. It also added an Explore section on the home screen. These are all small tweaks that keep the software looking fresh. While those aren’t exactly too useful, the latest redesign does have some use.
The new ‘Listen Again’ grid design helps you find music easier
Previously, when you’d open YouTube Music, you’d see a shelf of the albums and playlists you listened to recently. This is the Listen Again shelf, and, as the name suggests, it prompts you to listen to music again. It’s a quick and easy way to track down the music you just listened to. It’s great for people who listen to a certain album or playlist a bunch of times and to quickly access it again.
Now, the shelf is gone, and the Listen Again UI has a grid design. Before, only about two or three items were visible. Now, with the new design, you can see six tracks at a time. This would come in handy if you need to quickly find a track quickly without any excess scrolling.
It’s a small change to the software, but it can help you find what song you just listened to quicker. The change is rolling out now, and chances are that you probably already have. If not, then you should make sure to update it.
For a quick way to update your app, hold your finger down on the YouTube Music app icon and tap on the App Info button (the “i” in a circle.) Scroll down to the bottom and tap App details. It will take you right to the Google Play Store page for the app.
If you see the green Update button, then you know what to do. Once it updates, you should see the new design. If not, then you should wait a bit.
