YouTube Music for Android now allows users to share music directly from the app to Snapchat, Android Police reports.

Companies and users have always welcomed a two-way relationship between applications. Many users may like to share their favorite music to other social platforms and let others hear a musical piece. This feature has been on Spotify for a long time. However, it seems that YouTube Music wants to offer a similar feature.

According to what’s spotted on Reddit, the YouTube Music share menu now includes the Snapchat icon, and tapping on it results in opening a page with the album art, along with links to open the song or album from the app automatically. This is exactly the same thing that we see on Spotify.

Of course, the Snapchat icon was available at the the YouTube Music share sheet for some users in 2020. But now it’s doing what it is supposed to do, and it’s available for all users.

The next social platform that might receive this feature is Instagram. The Instagram icon is available on the YouTube Music share sheet, but it’s not functional. As Instagram is the world’s biggest photo-centric app, it could be an ideal candidate for being added to the YouTube Music share sheet.

Google wants to turn YouTube Music into a direct competitor to Spotify

In the past few months, we regularly heard about the new features coming to YouTube Music. Features like a song and video switcher for the desktop app or a new playback shortcut.

As the music streaming market rises, Google wants YouTube Music to go shoulder to shoulder with Spotify. Of course, Google’s efforts are not limited to just adding new features. The company recently hired a former Spotify executive to expand the app in Asia-Pacific (APAC) market.

Paul Smith has been Spotify’s Global Head of International Licensing since February 2017. Now, he is on Google to add fuel to the fire of competition between YouTube Music and Spotify.
