The character limit on tweets has been a pretty big subject surrounding Twitter for a while. We all remember the dog days of 120-character tweets, but those days ended a few years ago. While 280 characters are good enough to get your thought across, sometimes, you want just a bit more. Well, Elon Musk might give us a lot more. The Twitter CEO said that tweets will be up to 4000 characters long.
So, there has been a ton of drama surrounding Elon Musk’s acquisition of the social media site. It started off positively with the news that Elon wanted to bring the edit tweet button. Well, the edit tweet button is still reserved for Twitter Blue members, and we all know how that’s going. However, some of the drama seems to be dying down a bit.
Elon Musk says that tweets will be up to 4000 characters long
This news comes to us from, ironically, a rather short tweet. A Twitter user by the name of Allan Obare posted a tweet asking Elon Musk if the rumors about 4000-character tweets were true. As a response, Elon Musk simply said “yes.” Now, some of us may take this with a grain of salt given Elon Musk’s affinity for trolling. Not only that, but a jump from 280 characters to 4000 is pretty significant. That’s about a 1420% increase.
With 4000 characters, people can fully flesh out and articulate their tweets. There’s no doubt that we’ll definitely see some longer tweets, even if they don’t fill the entire 4000 characters. Heck, maybe some people will be able to post full articles given the higher limit. To put this into perspective, this article up to this point is not even half of the character limit.
At this point, we’re not quite sure exactly when Elon Musk will up the character limit. Also, we don’t know if it will be an exclusive feature for Twitter Blue users. What we do know is that people will definitely be excited to post longer tweets.
