Academy Award nominees and legendary comedians Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy clash in the new trailer for the Netflix comedy, You People. Released courtesy of the official Netflix YouTube channel, the trailer finds the pair partaking in an incredibly awkward conversation as Murphy attempts to establish whether Hill is a good match for his daughter. Check out the trailer for You People below.

Directed by Kenya Barris and co-written by himself and Jonah Hill, You People follows a new couple (Jonah Hill, Lauren London) and their families as they reckon with modern love amid culture clashes, societal expectations and generational differences. Based on the trailer, it’s going to be equal parts hilarious and stomach-churningly awkward watching these two beloved comedic actors butt heads.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“Theirs is a modern meet cute: Ezra Cohen (Hill) accidentally gets into Amira Mohammed’s (Lauren London) car one day, mistakenly convinced that she’s his rideshare,” the official synopsis reads. “Once she’s gotten over the shock and accepts his offer of a date, the two quickly bond over a shared love of sneakers and music. Soon, it’s clear that they’ve finally found that special someone. So special, in fact, that it’s time to think about merging their families. Enter Ezra’s progressive and semi-woke Jewish parents (Julia Louis-Dreyfus and David Duchovny) and Amira’s unyielding yet concerned Muslim parents (Eddie Murphy and Nia Long). The one thing they have in common? The ability to mercilessly interfere with their children’s lives — with hilarious results.”

You People features a stellar ensemble cast, with Eddie Murphy and Jonah Hill being joined by the likes of Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Lauren London, Mike Epps, Molly Gordon, Nia Long, Deon Cole, Rhea Perlman, David Duchovny, Andrew Schulz, Travis Bennett, Andrea Savage, La La Anthony, Sam Jay, Emily Arlook, Jordan Firstman, and Anthony Payton.

“These collaborators are masters at their craft,” star Lauren London said of her co-stars. “You have Eddie Murphy and Julia and Nia Long and David Duchovny and Jonah Hill — and Kenya as the captain of the ship. Everyone brought in their specialness and their art.”

Outside of passive-aggressively arguing, You People stars Eddie Murphy and Jonah Hill are plenty busy. Murphy will reprise the role of Axel Foley in the long-awaited Beverly Cops sequel, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley, which is rumored to follow Axel returning to Beverly Hills to look into the death of an old friend while uncovering police corruption within the force. In Los Angeles, he reunites with his daughter (Taylour Paige) and teams up with her by-the-book cop ex-boyfriend (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) to solve the case.

Jonah Hill meanwhile will once again turn his hand to directing following the release of his coming-of-age comedy-drama Mid90s and the documentary Stutz. Hill will next helm the mysterious project, Outcome, which recently added John Wick star Keanu Reeves as its lead.

You People is scheduled to be released on January 27th, 2023 by Netflix.
