You can’t use the PS5 Slim console covers on the PS5 Pro

When Sony announced the PS5 Pro, many hoped that you would be able to use the console covers that were released for the PS5 Slim, as they appeared to be the same size. It turns out, you can’t actually use those console covers.

This is likely to be a letdown for some consumers, as surely there are people who had planned on getting some of the covers to replace the stock white ones on the PS5 Pro. Those plans must now change. A recent post on Reddit details that the PS5 Slim console covers will not work for the PS5 Pro. The user who created the post mentioned that they attempted to put the covers on their new PS5 Pro unit. To no avail, as they weren’t able to complete the swap.

You might think this is because the covers aren’t actually the same size, but according to the poster, they are.

PS5 Slim console covers use different interlocking latches than the PS5 Pro model

For whatever reason Sony decided to use different interlocking latches for the PS5 Pro console covers than the ones you can find on the Slim. If you’ve never taken off your PS5’s console covers before, the underside of them has these latches across the surface that you can slide into place. This locks the console cover onto the console.

These are in different locations for the covers on the PS5 Pro. But only for the top half according to the poster on Reddit. The bottom half of the console cover seems to fit just fine, whereas the top half does not. The poster also mentions that the top part of the covers are the same size. So it’s just this relocation of the latches that prevents you from using the cover.

IGN says that Sony has confirmed the Slim covers won’t work for the Pro version of the console. So there’s unfortunately no way to get around it.

Sony plans to release covers for the Pro model later on

While the covers for the Slim won’t work for the Pro, Sony says that users will have a way to customize their console soon. Sony plans to release console covers for the PS5 Pro officially in the future. The company doesn’t mention any specific release dates but when they do launch you will no doubt be able to get them via PlayStation Direct. Chances are they will be sold through other retailers as well, but Sony also tends to save a color or two for its own website.

PlayStation 5 Pro does not work with the slim plates.
