Recently, we reported that the popular social media platform Snapchat would share the revenue with the creators by showing ads on their stories. This was the company’s new way of helping creators to make some extra money.
While the revenue sharing is based on a formula and isn’t available for everyone, according to another report by The Verge, the company is adding a new feature that is indeed live for all users.
Notably, Snapchat is adding a new way to share your real-time location with your friends. This is a pretty handy and useful feature as you can keep tabs on your loved ones who are en route to date or headed home.
You can find this location-sharing feature on most of the tracker apps. Using this feature, you can see or share your precise location, so your family or friends can know your whereabouts.
As noted by The Verge, the Snapchat real-time location sharing feature can be enabled for 15 minutes or a few hours with individual users.
However, do note that this feature is available only between mutual friends. Meaning, you cannot share your location with users who aren’t your friends.
Snapchat live location feature is visible within the chat window
If you are worried about being stalked or being asked to share your real-time location constantly, users can pause their location sharing.
Better yet, your friend won’t be notified that you have paused the location sharing feature. Snapchat will keep this real-time location sharing feature off by default.
In order to use it, you need to enable it manually. There is no option to share the location with all Snapchat friends.
You can enable this location sharing feature by navigating to your friend’s profile and selecting the duration of location sharing.
The status of the live location sharing will be visible within the chat window with that particular friend.
This is a first-of-a-kind live location feature for Snapchat. The platform already has the option to see when their friends last used the app.
Snapchat is partnering with It’s On Us, a national nonprofit program focused on stopping sexual assault.
Additionally, along with this live location sharing feature, Snapchat will also include an in-app message about bystander awareness starting today.
If you wish to use this Snapchat real-time location feature, make sure you have installed the latest version of the app on your phone.
