YouTube is awarding badges to Premium subscribers based on usage. The badges don’t appear to have any benefits but give you some valuable insight into your usage of the service. They also educate users on YouTube Premium features. The rollout began recently and should be available to all users over the next few days.
Spotted by 9to5Google, YouTube shows a card on the Home feed when you earn a badge. “Congrats on your new badge!” the card reportedly says. Tapping it opens a fullscreen page detailing the badge you have earned. The “Your Premium benefits” page houses all of your badges. You can access this page from the account menu on YouTube’s mobile app.
According to YouTube, you can “earn badges for reaching milestones and enjoying your favorite Premium features.” The new report names 19 different badges, all of which are reportedly animated and “generally amusing.” We have listed them below. It’s unclear if there are more or if YouTube plans to add more in the future.
The first badge seemingly is “Team Premium,” which everyone should get as soon as they join YouTube Premium. All existing subscribers should also get it once the new feature rolls out widely. The remaining badges will be unlocked as you use the service, though new subscribers may never earn some. For example, “Trailblazer” is awarded to those who joined Premium within its first two years of launching.
“Enthusiast” is for those who remain subscribed to YouTube Premium for a year. Likewise, the “10 million club” badge denotes that you are among the first 10 million members of the service. Other badges named by 9to5Google include Backup planner, Worry-free watcher, Constant connector, Gold listener, Platinum listener, Multi-platinum listener (100 listening hours in YouTube Music), Spot saver, Continuity champ, Pickup pro, Task juggler, Optimizer, Efficiency expert (30 hours of picture-in-picture), Backstage pass, VIP list, and All access.
YouTube Premium badges don’t have any benefits
YouTube seems to have recently rolled out this badge system. Once available for your Premium account, you will immediately get all the badges that you are eligible for. If you have already listened to YouTube Music for more than 100 hours, you will get the Multi-platinum listener badge and all other badges that require fewer listening hours. As said earlier, these badges don’t have any additional benefits. YouTube Premium already offers some special perks, including three months of PC Game Pass, 90 days of Walmart+, and four months of Calm Premium.
