Samsung launched three One UI 4 betas for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 in November while rolling out the stable release this month. However, the update was riddled with bugs as users complained of troubles with dark mode, screen flickering, and underwhelming performance. With this backdrop, Samsung is now releasing yet another One UI 4 beta for the two foldables.

This is officially the fourth beta release of One UI 4 for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3. As is the case with beta releases, this would be limited to customers enrolled in Samsung’s beta program. This beta release bears the firmware version ZUL4.

Information on the update comes from Samsung Community forums (via), while we’re also getting a glimpse at the changelog. Forum posts by members suggest that a bulk of the stability issues seen with the stable release have been fixed.

Samsung paused the One UI 4 update for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Z Fold 3 within a day

The changelog also mentions fixing “the phenomenon of booting into safe mode or entering recovery mode after update,” an issue faced by several users following the stable One UI 4 update.

Samsung clarifies that the two foldables will now revert to default from 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratios after the update. The Korean manufacturer is also fixing a bug wherein Instagram links won’t open in apps like Facebook. Lastly, the update also fixes instability issues with the Kiwoom Securities app.

The forum post warns users that installing the update could bring up some issues. So users should back up their Galaxy Z Fold 3 or the Z Flip 3 before the update.

Companies launch beta releases to detect bugs and other problems ahead of the stable update. But that hasn’t stopped bugs from popping up on stable releases. Samsung is among the fastest to roll out security and software updates. Perhaps it’s time to sacrifice speed for quality, particularly for its premium flagships.

Samsung decided to halt the release of the One UI 4 update for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 just a day after releasing it. In addition to the issues discussed above, some customers even found problems with apps like YouTube and Netflix. Moreover, some users couldn’t get the default camera to work following the update.
