The iPhone 16 series embargo has lifted, and a ton of information came as a result. Apple did not officially announce the charging speeds of the devices at launch, but now we have more information. Yes, the iPhone 16 series does offer faster charging.
The iPhone 16 series does offer faster wired and wireless charging
How much faster? Well, the iPhone 15 series capped out at 27W via a wire. The iPhone 16 series goes up to 45W in theory, but you’ll get around 38-39W charging in general use. So it is a bit faster than last year.
This is something that Ice Universe said about a week ago, and it has now been confirmed by ShrimpApplePro. If you’re wondering about other charging methods, well, let’s talk about those too.
Apple also increased wireless charging speeds on its new phones, but only for its MagSafe standard. You can now reach 25W charging speeds via MagSafe wireless charging. The cap was at 15W last year.
If you opt for Qi2, 15W charging is on offer, while 7.5W regular Qi charging is also on offer. The iPhone 16 models also support reverse wired charging up to 5W. This can come in handy for truly wireless earbuds, for example.
The charger is still not included in the box, though
So, Apple did technically improve charging speeds on its new smartphones. It’s not a huge boost compared to last year, but it sure is worth noting. You’re still not getting a charger in the box, though.
As many of you know, the company announced four smartphones. The iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max have landed. The ‘Pro’ models do have some perks, but by the looks of it, the charging is the same across the board. We still cannot confirm that ourselves, though.
All four models will become officially available starting on September 20. The pre-orders are currently still in effect.
