The Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 won’t become the company’s first global foldable smartphone. In other words, the phone will not launch outside of China. That is the same fate its predecessors had.
The Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 won’t launch in global markets, unfortunately
The Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold and MIX Fold 2 launched in China, and stayed exclusive to Xiaomi’s homeland. Well, the company’s Communications Director just said that the same fate will become the MIX Fold 3.
The information comes from Daniel Desjarlais, who shared the info via X (formerly known as Twitter). He flat out said that the “Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 will be available exclusively in Mainland China”.
Users, including us, were hoping the device will see a wider launch this time around. We were hoping that it will launch in at least some global markets, thus offering users a chance to grab a global version of the phone.
Quite a few Chinese OEMs already launched global versions of their foldables
It seems like we’ll have to wait until at least the Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 next year. Several Chinese OEMs have pushed their foldables to global markets, including OPPO, HONOR, Huawei, and more, so we expected the same to happen with Xiaomi. That won’t be the case.
It is a shame, as the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 is one of the more interesting foldable smartphones out there. It is not only very thin and light, considering its size and form factor, but it has four cameras on the back, backed by Leica.
It is a contender for the best smartphone camera on a foldable phone. All that could make it interesting for global consumers, as Xiaomi is a well-known brand at this point, especially in some regions.
We would love to hear the reasons behind this move, but Daniel Desjarlais did not share more info at this point. We may get an explanation in the near future, though, perhaps from Lei Jun, the company’s CEO, as he tends to share such info.
