According to a new rumor, the upcoming Xiaomi 12 Ultra may launch in both ceramic and leather variants. Based on the information provided, the regular variant may still be a glass one, though.
The Xiaomi 12 Ultra tipped to launch in both ceramic & leather options
So, it seems like Xiaomi has plans to offer various different hardware combos for this phone. The regular model will most likely have a glass back, while more expensive variants will include ceramic and leather on the back (two different models).
It is quite likely that not all those models will arrive to global markets, though. The vegan leather variant may remain exclusive to China, at least if previous launches are any indication. That’s a shame, as it does add quite a bit of grip to the device.
Both the glass and ceramic are quite slippery. Ceramic is more resistant to fingerprints, more scratch-resistant, plus it’s tougher, making it more difficult to shatter. One downside is… it’s heavier than glass, so it will make the phone heavier overall.
The Xiaomi 12 Ultra is expected to arrive mid-year, if the recent rumors are to be believed. Some other rumors are simply claiming H2, so we’ll see. That device is expected to offer some key improvements over the Xiaomi 12 Pro.
TSMC’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC will fuel the phone
It will be fueled by TSMC’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC aka the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+. That processor is expected to offer better thermals, and better performance overall.
On top of that, the phone is tipped to include a 4,900mAh battery with 120W charging. An improved camera setup is expected on the back. In fact, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra is expected to be the first Xiaomi smartphone to include Leica lenses. Xiaomi allegedly partnered up with Leica, and this will be the first smartphone that will represent that partnership.
You can also expect to get a large, QHD+, curved display with a 120Hz refresh rate. That will be an LTPO display, of course. An image of the phone’s back surfaced a while back, showing off the rear camera module. That’s the only seemingly-legitimate leak that we’ve seen.
