The Grandmaster of Kung Fu will try and get audiences’ attention with a martial arts-filled feature film. The movie recently released an official trailer, giving viewers a glimpse of the excellently choreographed fight scenes that would give John Wick a run for his money if they were ever to meet in a one-on-one duel.
Chinese martial arts and Japanese Aikido will be used in The Grandmaster of Kung Fu, as one character says he wants to see which is more impressive between the two. Audiences are treated to several sequences showing what fans can expect to see in the final movie, with plenty of wide takes giving viewers an excellent presentation as the film uses both practical fights with added VFX. The official synopsis for The Grandmaster of Kung Fu reads: “Near the end of the Qing Dynasty, a renowned Chinese martial artist engages in a life-or-death battle with a feared Japanese military commander in order to prevent Japan’s ultimate goal of seizing martial arts stronghold Tianjin.” The official trailer can be found below.
The film comes from Well Go USA Entertainment, streaming on Hi-YAH!. The streaming platform works to bring Kung-Fu and other martial art films and stars to the forefront, with new movies being added monthly. The Grandmaster of Kung Fu is helmed by Cheng Siyu, with Dennis To, Gao Xuemei, and Yang Yongfeng starring in the picture.
The Grandmaster of Kung Fu is nearly ready for release, arriving on Friday, Nov. 4.
The Grandmaster of Kung Fu Wants to Keep the Martial Arts Craze Going
The trailer for The Grandmaster of Kung Fu mentions Ip Man, the 2008 film starring Donnie Yen as the titular character. The movie was a massive success, spawning four follow-ups, culminating with Ip Man 4: The Finale in 2019. The films grossed over $400 million at the box office, with Yen taking his talents to the upcoming movie John Wick: Chapter 4 in 2023.
Earlier this year, Everything Everywhere All at Once arrived in theaters, quickly becoming the most successful A24 movie ever released. The film, starring Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, Stephanie Hsu, and Jamie Lee Curtis, featured more fight scenes than expected with fantastic choreography. In addition, the movie capitalized on great storytelling and fun and exciting martial arts that persisted throughout Everything Everywhere All at Once.
The Grandmaster of Kung Fu may be looking to create the next big martial arts franchise, although that is no small task. Fans will have to see how the film fairs against some of its competition when it arrives on Nov. 4.
