The accusers reportedly didn’t want to risk their immigration statuses

Four women are making very disturbing allegations about Motown legend Smokey Robinson, accusing him of sexual assault among other serious offenses.

Per People, the accusers are seeking $50 million in damages. The plaintiffs paint a deeply troubling picture of the 85-year-old, alleging a pattern of assault and a hostile work environment that spanned from at least 2007 to 2024. Reportedly, three of Robinson’s accusers were afraid to report the abuse for fear that doing so would jeopardize their immigration status.

The four women, all of whom have chosen to remain anonymous, have provided detailed accounts of the alleged assaults. Jane Doe 1 has also attached Frances Gladney in the case — claiming complicity. According to Jane Doe 1, Gladney was fully aware of her husband’s “deviant misconduct” at their Chatsworth home in California. She went into great detail about how Robinson would escort his wife to the nail salon on the weekend when nobody else was there, then come back home, lock her in a room, and sexually assault her without a condom.

Jane Doe 2 worked for the Robinsons from 2014 to 2020 but was forced into resigning due to continued sexual assault by Smokey Robinson from 2016. In her allegations, Frances played a part by verbally insulting her after being triggered by Robinson. With her, allegedly, Robinson took pleasure in humiliating her.

With Jane Doe 3, Robinson would allegedly repeatedly sexually assault her after committing bizarre acts like “exiting his bathroom nude.” He allegedly “raped” her from behind multiple times. Jane Doe 4, who has been with the family from 2006 to 2024 as a housekeeper, alleged similar sexual assault. All four women also allege they were overworked and underpaid. Incidentally, Motown Records — a historic institution in Black music — also produced Diddy’s final album before he was indicted on multiple criminal charges.

All of these allegations are serious, and hopefully these women have their day in court and get a semblance of justice and restoration of self so they can rebuild their lives. It’s rather unthinkable that, if true, the reason this could go on as long as it did was because they felt like they could not report the case due to their immigration status. As Joe Rogan said on his show, Americans must be cautious not to become the kind of monsters that harsh immigration laws are enabling.

As of this writing, the Robinsons have not released a statement in response to the accusations. With Diddy currently facing his accusers in court, it sets a good precedent that men are no longer protected by the veil of fame when such allegations surface.

On the other hand, Bill Cosby — despite multiple accusations and evidence — remains a free man. So while there are signs of progress, it’s clear there’s still a long way to go to stop these kinds of deviant acts from continuing. Hopefully, things will get better. Here at We Got This Covered, we wish all the women involved in this case a smooth path toward recovery.
