Winnie the Pooh is back. Not the lovable Disney character who looks forward to nothing more than his next pawful of honey, but the sadistic serial killer iteration who returns for more slicing and dicing in Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2. This time around he is back with more friends, more blood, and a bigger budget. Check out the red-band trailer for the horror sequel below.
Blood and Honey 2 will see an upgraded Pooh once again wreaking havoc on Christopher Robin and a collection of easily disposed of young characters. As the trailer shows, this time around Pooh will not only be joined by his trusty porcine friend Piglet, but Tigger and Owl are also along for the blood-soaked ride now that their copyrights have also expired and put the characters into the public domain.
The movie’s synopsis reads:
“Deep within the 100-Acre-Wood, a destructive rage grows as Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Owl, and Tigger find their home and their lives endangered after Christopher Robin revealed their existence. Not wanting to live in the shadows any longer, the group decides to take the fight to the town of Ashdown, home of Christopher Robin, leaving a bloody trail of death and mayhem in their wake. Winnie and his savage friends will show everyone that they are deadlier, stronger, and smarter than anyone could ever imagine and get their revenge on Christopher Robin, once and for all.”
Can Blood and Honey 2 Repeat Its Predecessor’s Success?
Like many surprise horror hits of the last few years, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey bucked the trend of big studio movies grabbing all the headlines. Made on a minimal budget, the film tapped into two different popular trends to ensure its success; it was the first movie to cash in on the new public domain status of a once-Disney icon, and it delivered the kind of brutal, no-holds-barred savage gore that has been seen in other popular hits such as the Terrifier franchise.
This time around, the movie is playing with the big boys – well, bigger than the first time around – and this means more money to work with. But can a follow-up to a critically abysmal movie really expect lightning to strike twice? Director Rhys Waterfield certainly seemed to think that the sequel will deliver everything audiences want when he hyped up the movie last year. He said at the time:
“In comparison to the first film everything’s stepped up massively. It’s a horror film. A lot of the times people are going there for the death scenes and for those elements and we’ve really upped the ante. I think the last time I did a count there was over 30 deaths in the movie, which is quite substantial compared to most movies. I think that’s at least over three times what the first film had and there’s various massacres and stuff. So there’s a lot of blood and a lot of gore.”
Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 is released in cinemas later this year.
