WILL (also referred to as WIL) has been picked up by Netflix and is set to be released globally on January 31st, 2024. Set in Antwerp, Belgium, the new WWII movie tells the story of an auxiliary policeman working during the Nazi occupation. Here’s what you need to know about the movie, plus some first looks and a clip from the movie.

The movie was first announced to be coming to Netflix via the New on Netflix newsletter for January 2024, including the title with its original name of WIL, which has since been replaced to have two Ls in the Netflix UI.

Based on the novel by Jeroen Olyslaegers, the movie first saw a limited theatrical release in September 2023 but has been scooped up by Netflix, where it’ll debut as a Netflix Original at the end of January 2024.  Per Netflix, here’s the official logline for WILL:

“Two young police officers find themselves torn between collaboration and resistance as they navigate the Nazi-occupied Antwerp during World War II.”

Director Tim Mielants is behind the feature film, which has a runtime of one hour and 56 minutes. Mielants is perhaps best known for directing on big English language TV shows like Peaky Blinders, The Terror, and Legion but has also directed the film Patrick released in 2019. Mielants wrote the script of the movie alongside Carl Joos.

The cast for the movie includes Stef Aerts, Matteo Simoni, Kevin Janssens, Gene Bervoets, Annelore Crollet, Gene Bervoets, and Jan Bijvoet.

A short clip from the movie has been released (you can find this in the Netflix interface right now), or we’ve embedded the English-dubbed version below:

What dubs and subtitles will be available for WILL?

The movie will be available in its original Flemish alongside a version with an audio description. Netflix has also put together a slew of other audio options, including most notably an English dub, but also dubs for Spanish, Turkish, German, Hindi, Italian, Czech, and Portuguese.

Over 30 subtitle options will be available for the movie, too.

Netflix has plenty of other WW2 series, movies, and documentaries for you to watch while waiting for WILL to drop. In recent months, they dropped the highly anticipated All The Lights We Cannot See, and the John Boyega narrated docuseries World War II: From the Frontlines. Other WWII movies in recent years include My Best Friend Anne Frank, The Forgotten Battle, and Narvik.
