Samsung is nearing the launch of its sixth-gen foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. The new foldables should break cover at the company’s mid-year Galaxy Unpacked event in July. Leaks have already revealed a great deal about both. A wild rumor now says Samsung will hike the prices of the duo by about $100. We have doubts over the accuracy of this information though, so take it with a pinch of salt.
Samsung unconvincingly tipped to hike the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6’s prices
Greek publication Techmaniancs recently published an “exclusive” report claiming that they have learned “all about what’s coming” at Samsung’s next Unpacked. They allegedly obtained the information from “very authoritative sources.” At this point, most of the industry insiders are probably familiar with the company’s plans, so we would have trusted the report. But we couldn’t because there are too many contradicting claims here.
To start with, the publication says Samsung will host the Galaxy Unpacked on July 24. All recent reports have hinted at a July 10 date for the big launch event. The company is bringing the event to Paris, France because the country is hosting the Summer Olympics this year and it is one of the biggest global sponsors of the mega sporting event. However, the Olympics kicks off on July 26, so the new date for the Galaxy Unpacked is too close to it.
According to the report, Samsung wants to take maximum advantage of the Olympics to promote the new devices it launches at the upcoming event. Hence, it decided to launch them just two days before the start of the games. But we are still skeptical that this is true. Perhaps Samsung will open sales of the new foldables and other devices on July 24. The launch event, which usually takes place two weeks before release, may still take place on July 10.
Moving on, the new report says Samsung will increase the prices of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 by €100 in Europe. The US may see a similar hike ($100). The report adds that the foldables won’t bring many major hardware upgrades, with a new processor and a 50MP primary camera for the Flip said to be the only notable upgrades. Samsung reportedly hasn’t reduced the display crease, which is another contradiction to existing rumors.
No Ultra foldable or Ultra watch?
This report suggests Samsung will look to justify the higher prices with an improved software experience, including new AI features. However, that may not be enough to charge €100 or $100 more. In fact, the company should be looking to make foldables more affordable while improving their quality and durability. All of this makes us doubt the authenticity of this claim. Perhaps we are optimistic that Samsung won’t increase the prices of its new foldables.
This isn’t the end of contradicting information in this report. It says the company doesn’t have a Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra or any other foldable in the pipeline for a July launch. This means we won’t see the rumored Fan Edition (FE) or Slim-branded foldables. Samsung might still have those in development, though. Just that July’s Unpacked won’t bring any of those. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 are the only foldables planned for launch at the event.
The report also explicitly rejects the existence of the rumored Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra. Instead, Samsung will launch the Galaxy Watch X. It will be a premium offering with a bigger battery and stronger build quality. The watch will reportedly last up to 100 hours on a single charge. It is also water resistant up to 100m deep, making it ideal for divers. The Galaxy Watch X will cost “significantly higher” than the standard Galaxy Watch 7 models.
Finally, the report says Samsung might announce a market release of the Galaxy Ring at the upcoming Unpacked. The Korean firm’s first-ever smart ring is expected to go on sale in a few months. Time will tell whether any or all of the information in this report is accurate. We expect more reliable sources to chime in with their information soon. We will keep an eye on those and let you know as soon as we have anything else to share with you.
