While the latest trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness offers a host of new footage, several clues still remain, including the identity of a mysterious glowing figure. Glimpsed battling Wanda Maximoff towards the end of the trailer, which was released by Marvel Entertainment during the Super Bowl, there are many theories regarding who this could be, including an Iron Man variant, Fantastic Four member The Human Torch, and, perhaps most convincingly, the return of Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau.

The daughter of Air Force pilot and friend of Carol Danvers’ Captain Marvel, Maria Rambeau, Monica played a vital role in the Disney+ series WandaVision, gaining superpowers after entering the town of Westview. Thus, Monica and Wanda have some history, and with the latter looking more and more like the villain of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, there is ample reason why Monica and Wanda could come to blows.

Others, though, have posited that this could be a variant of Monica, or even a variant of her mother, Maria, who has become Captain Marvel instead of Carol and is perhaps a member of the secret superhero team, The Illuminati. Monica is, of course, confirmed to be returning to the MCU fray in The Marvels, meaning that Doctor Strange 2 could, in fact, be her big-screen debut.

This is just the beginning of the variant theories, though, with others suggesting that this could be The Human Torch, who is due to be introduced in a standalone Fantastic Four movie this year. If that were not already crazy enough, some have even suggested that this glowing figure could be a variant of Iron Man, played by the oft-rumored Tom Cruise, with many suggesting that The Superior Iron Man will act as inspiration. Though honestly, this seems highly unlikely.

The latest Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer has fans even more excited for the MCU sequel. Rumors have been circulating for some time that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will introduce all manner of new characters, with some coming from the franchises already established by 20th Century Fox. This has seemingly been confirmed in both the newly released trailer, TV Spot, and poster, with X-Men star Patrick Stewart’s voice heard in the footage, a blurry Mister Fantastic seen sitting amongst The Illuminati, and the likes of Deadpool and Captain Carter spotted on the latest poster.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will throw open the door to the multiverse, unleashing mystery and madness upon the MCU. With Iron Man and Captain America gone, former genius surgeon and the strongest magician of them all, Doctor Strange, is expected to play an active role as a central figure in the Avengers. However, using his magic to manipulate time and space at will with a forbidden spell has opened the door to a mysterious madness called “the Multiverse.” To restore a world where everything is changing, Strange seeks help from his allies. But a terrible threat looms over humanity and, even more surprising, the greatest threat in the universe looks exactly like Doctor Strange.

Directed by Sam Raimi and starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange, alongside Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to be released on May 6, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
