Jordana Brewster and Reid Scott are stuck with an uninvited guest in the official trailer for Who Invited Charlie?
Jordana Brewster looks to lead the upcoming comedy with a lot of heart, titled Who Invited Charlie? The project should be a ton of fun, though Brewster’s character, Rosie, and her husband, Phil (Reid Scott, Veep), certainly have a lot on their plate from the looks of the official trailer. In the film, the couple plan to wait out the pandemic in the Hamptons, far from the hustle and bustle of New York City. However, they’re soon greeted by Charlie (Adam Pally, Iron Man 3, Sonic the Hedgehog), who abruptly crashes their family getaway.
Charlie is Phil’s former college roommate, looking to have a bit of fun with the family. A close connection between Charlie and their son Max (WITS Academy) may be the driving force of the film, though the relationships between the entire family and their uninvited guest looks to be a heartwarming, hilarious adventure. However, Charlie knows some of Phil’s biggest secrets, which may be exposed during the group’s time together. The official trailer, which shows a bit of the hijinx in store for audiences, can be found below.
Who Invited Charlie? comes from filmmaker Xavier Manrique, known for his work on the 2016 film Chronically Metropolitan, which starred Shiloh Fernandez, Mary-Louise Parker, and Josh Peck. This will be his first project since his directorial debut. Nicholas Schutt wrote the script for the film, with previous credits including Outer Banks, Blood & Oil, and a prior collaboration with Manrique on Chronically Metropolitan.
The official synopsis for Who Invited Charlie? reads:
Phil Schreiber, a self-involved hedge fund manager escapes to the Hamptons with his wife and son at the beginning of the pandemic. Making an already fraught situation worse is the surprise arrival of Phil’s college roommate Charlie. An exemplar of Falstaffian excess, Charlie is also the keeper of some of Phil’s darkest secrets. To make matters worse for Phil, his wife and son love Charlie. As Charlie makes himself at home — secrets are revealed that threaten to do more harm than the virus they’re all hiding out from.
Who Joins the Leads in Who Invited Charlie?
Who Invited Charlie? should be a good time, in part because of the excellent performances from its cast. The leads consist of Brewster, Pally, Scott, and Dager. However, the rest of the cast is rounded out with Rhys Coiro (Entourage), Peter Grosz (Things Heard & Seen), Dylan Penn (Unregistered), and Xosha Roquemore (Precious). Jason Dubin and Reid Scott serve as producers on the film, along with Nicholas Schutt and Xavier Manrique. Luckily, fans don’t need to wait too long to see the movie for themselves, as Who Invited Charlie? is releasing in theaters and On Demand on Feb. 3.
