The haunting first trailer for Sony Pictures’ adaptation of the bestselling novel, Where the Crawdads Sing, teases a creepy murder mystery led by rising star Daisy Edgar-Jones. Released by the official Sony Picture Entertainment YouTube channel, the footage not only gives us a good idea of the plot and performances that are sure to make Where the Crawdads Sing a must-see for thriller fans, but it also teases Taylor Swift’s new song, “Carolina,” which features prominently in the trailer.

From the best-selling 2018 novel of the same name by Delia Owens comes a captivating mystery. Where the Crawdads Sing tells the story of Kya, an abandoned girl who raised herself to adulthood in the dangerous marshlands of North Carolina. For years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” haunted Barkley Cove, isolating the sharp and resilient Kya from her community. Drawn to two young men from town, Kya opens herself to a new and startling world; but when one of them is found dead, she is immediately cast by the community as the main suspect. As the case unfolds, the verdict as to what actually happened becomes increasingly unclear, threatening to reveal the many secrets that lay within the marsh.

Following her powerful, vulnerable, critically acclaimed performance in the romantic drama Normal People, Daisy Edgar-Jones has continued to demonstrate her tremendous talent. Before she leads the adaptation of Where the Crawdads Sing, the actress can currently be seen starring alongside Marvel star Sebastian Stan in the warped romantic comedy/thriller, Fresh.

Fresh is the first feature from director Mimi Cave and follows Noa (Daisy Edgar-Jones), who meets the alluring Steve (Sebastian Stan) at a grocery store and—given her frustration with dating apps—takes a chance and gives him her number. After their first date, Noa is smitten and accepts Steve’s invitation to a romantic weekend getaway, only to find that her new paramour has been hiding some unusual appetites.

Starring Daisy Edgar-Jones as Noa, Sebastian Stan as Steve, Jonica T. Gibbs as Mollie, Charlotte Le Bon as Ann, Dayo Okeniyi as Paul, Andrea Bang as Penny, and Brett Dier as Chad, Fresh was released earlier this month on March 4, 2022, on Hulu by Searchlight Pictures. The movie has been met with a positive response from critics for the way in which it critiques modern dating while subverting genre tropes, with our own Julian Roman calling Fresh an “astonishing experience.”

Where the Crawdads Sing is scheduled to be released by Sony Pictures Releasing on July 15, 2022.
