WhatsApp is working on animated emojis for chats by relying on the Lottie library. The feature might come to the app in upcoming updates.
The Meta-owned messaging app has been making the headlines for quite some time now for its in-development features, including locking a specific chat or editing contacts within the app. The latest feature that’s spotted in progress is the ability to send animated emojis. The feature is spotted by WABetaInfo in WhatsApp Desktop beta and uses the Lottie library.
The outlet says animated emojis will be added to WhatsApp in the future update. Additionally, users can send animated emojis once the animated version of that emoji is available. So users probably have no control over the animation as they’re sent by default.
Animated emojis have been found in Telegram for a long time, and the app even allows users to turn them into profile pictures. Although WhatsApp has been late in adding animated emojis, they are still welcome. These emojis can add more fun to your chats.
Animated emojis are coming to WhatsApp
Most users will certainly find these emojis interesting, and they can positively impact the user’s experience. However, WhatsApp could add a few options on the Settings page for users who prefer a simplified texting experience and don’t want to use animations.
The feature is still under development for WhatsApp Desktop but will also come to the Android and iOS versions. WABetaInfo says the WhatsApp beta for iOS and Android will likely get the same feature by the next update. If you’re using WhatsApp Desktop, keep an eye on the upcoming updates.
WhatsApp has been a target of public criticism due to the lack of innovative features and failing behind Telegram. But things have changed since last year, and the Meta-owned app vigorously started to develop new features to catch up with rivals.
We can safely say that the WhatsApp messaging experience is significantly improved and constantly improving. Likewise, the latest features spotted under development can make WhatsApp even more desirable.
