To improve the cross-collaboration of group chats within its platform, Meta is rolling out the WhatsApp Community feature. This feature will become available globally in the coming months. Also, WhatsApp doesn’t leave its users in the dark regarding the functions of this coming feature.
Simply, this feature is like a group that can consist of various other groups for certain purposes. For example, within an office setting, there are different roles and responsibilities with varying requirements. The office can choose to have a WhatsApp group for the communication of ideas and work-related issues. Previously, for better communication, different teams within the office would have their separate group chats for issues about their work. But the WhatsApp Community feature is bringing that to an end.
Merging multiple group chats into on with the WhatsApp Community feature
Once it becomes available, the office in the example above will only need one group that will contain other necessary groups. With this feature, all groups will be able to exist under one roof whilst maintaining their participants and keeping certain conversations private. The larger group or “community” will be the ground for discussion of matters that concern everyone within “the office.”
Providing multiple groups within one group chat is WhatsApp’s plan with this coming feature. WhatsApp says that it has been working on this feature with beta testers in various countries. It is now time to introduce this to the global community, it is not clear when this release will happen, but it will come with an application update.
Other features coming to WhatsApp will as well establish their presence with an application update. Features like 1024 group participants, large file sharing, and so on will work seamlessly with the Community feature. Once ready for global release, WhatsApp will issue an upgrade to its platform on various operating systems, giving users access to the new feature.
This feature isn’t new, as platforms such as Discord and even Meta’s own Facebook have had it for a while. Introducing the community feature to WhatsApp might entice users from other competing platforms to abandon ship. Most features available on the platform’s regular group chats will also be accessible via WhatsApp Community.
