WhatsApp appears to be warming up to “Chat Filters”, the app’s latest beta version indicates. The new feature, available to a few beta testers for now, allows users to search and organize chats based on predefined categories.

WhatsApp appears to be reintroducing chat filters. This promising and timesaving feature had disappeared just as abruptly as it had appeared in a previous beta version of the popular internet-based instant messaging platform released last year.

WhatsApp Is Experimenting With Chat Filters As A Quick Search Tool

WhatsApp first offered a sneak peek into Chat Filters way back in July 2023. This feature essentially introduced onscreen buttons within the app’s window above the chat list to sort conversations.

After disappearing in all subsequent beta versions, Chat Filters have reappeared in WhatsApp Beta For Android 2.24.6.16. This feature unlocks the ability to filter conversations based on their category and status.

A new row containing chat filters is now visible to a few beta testers, reported WABetaInfo. These chat filters essentially allow users to rearrange chat windows in the app. In other words, users can ask the app to display chats of a certain type.

Needless to say, WhatsApp does allow searching through conversations, individual, group, and business. However, these are word searches. Chat Filters simplify and improve this function by allowing users to perform searches quickly, without typing.

Chat filters allow users to instantly categorize conversations. This makes it easier for users to find and read the chats they need, without scrolling through a long list of conversations, read and unread. This is one of the biggest improvements which should help in managing the long list of conversations in WhatsApp.

How To Use Chat Filters To Organize Conversations

Chat Filters is a feature that allows users to bring forth specific chats or conversation tabs. Currently, the latest beta version of WhatsApp offers All, Unread, and Groups chat filters. As expected, the default is the “All” filter, which means WhatsApp will display all chat windows, individual, group, and business. Tapping one of the other options brings forth only those chats that match the filter.

Last year’s beta version of WhatsApp introduced Personal and Business chat filters. However, they aren’t visible in the latest beta version. It seems WhatsApp is testing the most suitable and practical combination of chat filters.

WhatsApp had recently introduced a “Favorites” filter, which essentially brought forth all the chats marked as favorites. Users can tag chats or conversations as favorites and they are denoted by a star icon. These developments strongly suggest WhatsApp wants to offer chat filters as a standard feature in the stable version of its app.
