There are several companies making foldable phones, but Samsung, undoubtedly, stands above all of them in terms of popularity. Its Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip lines of phones are the most popular foldable phones on the market. However, the company is not done just yet, as, according to Naver, Samsung is working on bringing two foldable Galaxy Books soon.

Samsung could be working on two foldable Galaxy Books

We have two primary types of foldable phones out in the wild. There’s the notebook foldable that has the form of a regular slab phone when closed and the form of a tablet when opened. There’s also the clamshell foldable that has the form of a regular phone when opened and folds in half. However, Samsung wants to add another genre, the foldable Galaxy Book. This isn’t something completely new, as Lenovo developed the ThinkPad X1. It looks like a fairly large tablet, but it folds to the form factor of a laptop.

According to the source, Samsung might be in the process of developing its own version of this. Sources with knowledge of Samsung’s supply chain told Naver that the company is indeed working on two very large foldable devices to come in the near future. One will be a 14-inch device, and one will be a 17-inch device.

These devices will have really small screens

If 14 inches and 17 inches are the diagonals for the entire screens, then these might be really small laptops when folded. Seeing as there are laptops with screens that are, themselves, 14 inches and 17 inches. These foldable Galaxy Books will utilize half of the screens for the actual display and the other half for the keyboard. The 17-inch model could possibly have a display in the neighborhood of 11.5 inches diagonal.

At these sizes, Samsung might not market these as productivity powerhouses. Rather, the company may bank on their portability. The device won’t have any physical keys, so it could save space on the physical components, and that will make for an even smaller footprint. That will help it fit into more bags than traditional laptops.

When could we expect these devices?

Right now, it’s tough to say when we’ll be seeing these computers hit the shelves. We know that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 phones will be coming later in the year. Those might be the only foldable devices that the company launches, but who knows if the company might surprise us. We can realistically expect to see these devices during an Unpacked event next year, but a 2022 launch isn’t out of the question.
