The Flash movie looks to be the perfect blend of looking to the past and pressing ahead with the future as not only will it bring back Michael Keaton’s Batman, the Ezra Miller vehicle will also introduce Supergirl into the DCEU for the first time, with Sasha Calle cast as only the second-ever cinematic incarnation of the Girl of Steel. Thanks to set pics, we know that Calle’s Supergirl will be a unique interpretation of the heroine, pulling from a few different versions of her in the comics.
In keeping with this innovative approach to the character, the latest intel points to the studio wanting to use the Kryptonian to mark a major milestone in the franchise. As per a new rumor shared by tipster Daniel Richtman on his Patreon page, Warner Bros. is looking to portray Supergirl as bisexual in the DCEU. That’s all we know right now, so we can’t say if this is something that will be explored in The Flash or saved for a future movie.
Both the MCU and DCEU are in the process of working on their LGBTQ+ representation. The pair of them seem to be at the stage where they’re willing to verbally confirm a leading character is bisexual, like Harley Quinn in Birds of Prey and Loki in Loki, but haven’t stirred up the courage to actually show this on-screen yet. If WB really does want Calle’s Kara Zor-El (if that is who she’s playing) to be bi, hopefully, they’ll actually give her a storyline that reflects that.
For years, DC fans have hoped The CW’s Supergirl would see Melissa Benoist’s Kara get together with Lena Luthor, though that seems unlikely to happen in the show’s ongoing sixth and final season. But maybe the DCEU could end up providing the representation that folks have been looking for in the Arrowverse.
The Flash is in production in the UK now ahead of its release in theaters on November 4th, 2022.
