An unusually high number of OnePlus 10 Pro and OnePlus 9 Pro smartphones are experiencing motherboard crashes, allegedly after a recent update. Multiple malfunctions and overheating have led to device failures, causing panic among OnePlus users.

OnePlus 10 Pro motherboard crashes spike after software update

There has been a spike in motherboard crashes of OnePlus Android smartphones. The issue seems to be plaguing OnePlus 10 Pro and OnePlus 9 Pro smartphones.

The OnePlus Community platform has seen a sudden surge in complaints about the erratic behavior of their smartphones. Interestingly, there’s no specific pattern, but most of the devices end up dead, most likely the result of a catastrophic motherboard failure.

Some users have indicated they weren’t even actively using their OnePlus 10 Pro 5G or the OnePlus 9 Pro smartphones. However, even while sitting idle, these devices suddenly switched off and then refused to switch on. Some users claimed their OnePlus smartphones started behaving erratically.

Some of the common symptoms include the phone warming up abruptly. This was followed by the device either lagging, freezing, or becoming unresponsive. Such devices eventually turned off permanently. Most of the affected users rushed to their nearest OnePlus service center, where they were informed about a defective motherboard.

A few users claimed their devices faced troubles after installing an update. However, there’s no information about the update that could be causing motherboard crashes.

Will OnePlus offer free repairs and replacements for devices with motherboard failures?

It is concerning to note that so far, OnePlus hasn’t come forward to make any statement or offered free repairs or extended warranties to affected users. The company’s silence has reportedly intensified scrutiny over the brand’s quality control.

OnePlus does offer generic advice for users who experience unexpected shutdowns. According to the company, users must investigate if an app is causing any problems. OnePlus smartphone users who experience automatic restarts or shutdowns should reinstall the entire system firmware, downloaded from OnePlus servers.

As always, OnePlus urges customers to reach out to customer service centers for further assistance and resolution. The company, however, could have helped users by at least acknowledging the issue.

OnePlus recently announced a lifetime display warranty for users who were impacted by the green line issue. However, a large number of service centers refuse to honor the warranty in the event that the motherboard has crashed and quote hefty repair charges.
