UPDATE: Samsung Netherlands has announced the pricing details for the Galaxy A13. The device will cost €189 for the 4GB+64GB variant and €209 for the 4GB+128GB variant in the country. The announcement also confirms the Exynos 850 processor and Single Take camera feature. Samsung has yet to reveal the pricing and availability details of the Galaxy A23.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Samsung has begun the 2022 refresh of its budget and mid-range smartphone lineups. It has launched the Galaxy A13 and Galaxy A23 as its latest affordable smartphone propositions. Let us have a closer look at their specs and design.

Galaxy A13 and Galaxy A23 specifications

The Galaxy A13 and Galaxy A23 have a lot in common. They both feature a 6.6-inch TFT LCD screen with an FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2408 pixels) and a V-shaped notch at the center. Samsung doesn’t tell anything about the display refresh rate. That should mean a standard refresh rate of 60Hz. Both devices get Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the screen.

The two phones also feature the same camera setup, both at the front and the back. The rear camera setup includes a 50-megapixel F/1.8 primary shooter, a 5-megapixel F/2.2 ultrawide lens, a 2-megapixel F/2.4 depth sensor, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. At the front, we have an 8-megapixel camera with an aperture of F/2.2.

The camera layouts on the back of the Galaxy A13 and Galaxy A23 are identical as well, up to the positioning of each sensor and the LED flash unit. But there’s one noticeable difference here. While the former has all the camera sensors protruding out of the back panel individually, the latter gets a separate camera island. There’s no aesthetic difference at the front though.

Both phones also feature a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and run Android 12 out of the box, with Samsung’s One UI 4.1 on top. They come in identical size and weight and boast Samsung Knox security and LTE connectivity.

So where do the Galaxy A13 and Galaxy A23 differ? Most notably, the chipset. Samsung isn’t naming the processor on either phone but there are enough hints. The former gets an octa-core chipset with a 2.2GHz + 2GHz CPU configuration. The latter, meanwhile, has its octa-core processor operating at up to 2.4GHz, with the lower CPU cores running at 1.9GHz.

Apart from the processor, these phones also differ in terms of charging speed. While both pack 5,000mAh batteries, the Galaxy A23 charges at 25W and the Galaxy A13 at just 15W.

When will these phones go on sale?

Unfortunately, we don’t have that information yet. Samsung hasn’t revealed the price and availability details of either phone. It simply said the Galaxy A13 will be available in blue, peach, black, and white colors with 3/4/6GB of RAM and 32/64/128GB of storage. The Galaxy A23 will also come in the same four colors but with up to 8GB of RAM. Both phones will support micro SD cards of up to 1TB capacity.

There have been reports of Samsung working on a 5G version of the Galaxy A23. If true, the company may unveil it in the coming weeks or months. It should also soon share the pricing and availability information of the Galaxy A13 and Galaxy A23. We will keep you posted.
