UPDATE: The Xiaomi 13 series launch in China has been postponed. Xiaomi announced the news, but did not reveal the reason behind this decision. We may have an idea why, though. It’s probably due to the death of the former President of the People’s Republic of China, Jiang Zemin. The launch will occur in the near future, but it’s not known when exaclty.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: It’s now official, the Xiaomi 13 series will launch on December 1. Xiaomi announced that via Weibo, as the launch will take place in China. As most of you know, the global launch for these devices will be conducted separately. But yes, the Xiaomi 13 series is coming to global markets, of course.

The Xiaomi 13 series will launch on December 1 in China

That being said, Xiaomi did confirm that the press event will start at 7 PM China time on December 1. That translates to noon CET / 6 AM EST / 3 AM PST, in case you’re wondering.

Xiaomi did release a poster along with this announcement, and it obviously confirms that one of the phones will feature a flat display, and the other a curved panel. That means that the CAD-based renders were probably spot on. The Xiaomi 13 will feature a flat display, while the ‘Pro’ unit will include a curved one.

Xiaomi 13 launch announcement

This announcement also confirms that the ‘Xiaomi 13’ branding won’t be skipped. One leak suggested that the Xiaomi 14 name will be used in place of the Xiaomi 13, but that won’t happen. This poster also confirms Leica’s presence, of course. Both devices will use Leica lenses and expertise.

MIUI 14 will also be announced

Xiaomi will also announce MIUI 14 alongside these smartphones. The company did mention MIUI 14 by name, both in the announcement, and in the provided poster.

Based on the CAD-based renders that surfaced, the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro will look considerably different. Not only will they have different displays, but different designs altogether.

The Xiaomi 13 will have flat sides, and a considerably different camera island on the back. The Xiaomi 13 Pro will be a lot curvier, based on those images. It’s interesting that Xiaomi decided to differentiate the two phones this much.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is expected to fuel both of these phones. They will offer high-end specs, though the ‘Pro’ model will be more powerful, of course. It is expected to utilize a 1-inch camera sensor. We’re hoping the same will be the case with the Xiaomi 13, but we’re not sure.
