In this era of social media, platforms need to adapt or bring in fresh features to provide an up-to-date experience to their users. In line with this, Twitter has officially revealed in a series of tweets that it is testing more playback speed options for videos.
Currently, you can watch videos on the Twitter platform at their original speed. There is no option to control its playback speed, just like you have some options in the YouTube app.
Having a set of different playback controls lets you get more information from a video. Especially if the object in the video is moving very fast.
Now, Twitter has said that it is testing new video playback speed options for both Android and the web. In fact, this feature will soon be available for select users on Android and on the web platform.
According to the official tweets, Twitter users will be able to select from various speeds ranging from 0.25x for slow playback, up to 2x for faster playback. A total of eight different speed options are available in 0.25x increments.
Selected users can use this option from the Settings menu on Twitter
For testing, if you are one of the lucky users, you will be able to use this option from the Settings menu at the display on top of the video. Tapping on the video will bring up the different speed options.
You can play your video at whatever speed you want. Twitter also shared screenshots of this new video playback speed control in action.
The best part about this video playback speed control is that the technology used by both Twitter and YouTube doesn’t change the pitch of the video when the speed of the video is ramped up or down.
You will notice some tipsy-ness in the sound of the speaker when you dial down the video playback speed, but it retains the original pitch of the speaker.
This feature could come in handy in multiple situations. You can speed up the video if you have a little free time and you want to complete the video. Also, if it is a recipe video, you can ramp up the speed and save time.
Do note that the Twitter video playback speed option feature is currently under testing. It may or may not make it to the stable version of the Twitter platform. It all depends on the positive feedback from the testers.
