Xbox Game Pass is easily one of the best values in gaming, but what are the best games for it? Which titles should you focus your time on? Well the answer to that will change from person to person, as naturally people have unique tastes. But, that doesn’t mean there aren’t a group of games that Microsoft is offering in Xbox Game Pass that can’t be passed off as the best titles to check out first.
These are going to be games that are generally well-liked and in most cases, exceedingly popular with fans and critics. Xbox Game Pass also changes its lineup pretty often. So this list will change accordingly to accommodate that when games leave the library eventually.
Lastly, there’s also a huge list of games you can play if you subscribe, and these are available across multiple platforms. Such as PC, console, and cloud. This list isn’t focusing on any one platform in particular. And instead will incorporate all three methods for playing.

Tunic
- Cost if purchased: $29.99
- Where to play: PC, Console, Cloud
Tunic is an isometric action game where you play as a small fox who’s stranded in a ruined land. It plays a lot like Zelda but also incorporates elements of difficulty akin to souls-like titles. Though not necessarily on that scale.
If you love adventure seeking games with RPG elements, Tunic is a great throw back to those kinds of games that mix RPG and action. And despite its similarities to Zelda, Tunic is unique and has plenty of gameplay features to call its own.
As one of the newest games on Game Pass, we also feel it’s one of the best ones you can sink some time into right now.
Sable
- Cost if purchased: $19.99
- Where to play: PC, Console, Cloud
Sable is a charming action & adventure game that will have you exploring large patches of desert sands as you go through your right of passage called the Gliding. Hop on your hover bike (which you help create), and embark on your journey of discovery. The game features loads of puzzles and very little combat. So you’re definitely getting a much more laid back experience here when playing.
If you’re the type of player that likes to figure things out, you’ll probably love Sable. It requires the player to do much of the exploration without a ton of hand holding. But not so much so that you should find it extremely difficult to figure out what to do.
On top of all that the cell-shaded visuals and vast landscapes are a pretty nice feast for the eyes.
Scarlet Nexus
- Cost if purchased: $47.99
- Where to play: PC, Console, Cloud
Scarlet Nexus is a JRPG with anime-style visuals based around the story of humanity living in an age where people have psionic abilities. This newfound power came along with a newfound threat – mutants who hunger for human brains and seek to destroy.
You play the role of one of humanity’s last hopes, a soldier with these psionic abilities that just so happen to be the only thing that can defeat these mutants. As is typical with all JRPG games, you’ll be able to level up your character to gain new powers and skills to help you in battle. All the while uncovering more about how these mutants came to be and how your powers have manifested.
Scarlet Nexus also features a really cool dual story. As you can start the game as one of two characters whose stories are linked to each other. These interwoven moments help to reveal the complete story of the game. And it’s definitely one of the best games on Game Pass right now.
Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy
- Cost if purchased: $29.99
- Where to play: PC, Console, Cloud
Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy is one of 2021’s coolest games. We enjoyed it immensely during our review and think every Marvel fan should give it a go. This is an action game that, while not completely devoid of faults, is an all-around fun experience thanks to the emotional and relatable back and forth you get between the game’s characters.
There’s also some puzzle solving here and there if you’re looking to go after some of the collectibles. Like new costumes for the team and such. Additionally, the combat and abilities are fun and worth experiencing.
This is definitely one of the better games we played last year and now that it’s on Game Pass, it’s available to a whole lot more people who haven’t given it a chance yet. Trust us, it’s worth it.
Forza Horizon 5
- Cost if purchased: $47.99
- Where to play: PC, Console, Cloud
The latest Forza racing game is also one of the best in the series, and one of the best games on Game Pass right now. Even if you’re not a loyal Forza fan but you do like racing games, check this one out if you haven’t already done so.
It has a massive roster of cars, literally hundreds of different rides for you to put the pedal to the metal in. And true to the Forza Horizon formula, you’ll be racing across the planet in all kinds of locales and in tons of different environments with dynamic weather and more.
Featuring both single player and online play, Forza Horizon 5 has a lot to offer anyone who enjoys racing titles. Plus, the graphics aren’t bad to look at.
No Man’s Sky
- Cost if purchased: $47.99
- Where to play: PC, Console, Cloud
No Man’s Sky is the ultimate game for those who love to explore vast worlds with seemingly limitless possibilities. Embark on a journey across the universe in your ship and seek out to discover all kinds of things with hundreds of thousands of procedurally generated worlds.
Stumble upon new species of animal and plant life. Jump into hyperspace for fast travel. Explore the universe with friends. There are really no limits here. Plus with the latest update to the game that came out last month, there’s even more to do in no Man’s Sky than there’s ever been.
If you’ve ever dreamed of setting out for the stars and flying through space to see what you could find, this is probably the best game to do that in.
Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes Of An Elusive Age
- Cost if purchased: $25.99
- Where to play: PC, Console, Cloud
Fans of Final Fantasy will no doubt love this game too. The Dragon Quest series is Square Enix’s other big JRPG franchise and although less popular globally than Final Fantasy, the DQ games are something very special that all JRPG fans need to experience.
Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes Of An Elusive Age is the Definitive Edition of this game, featuring extra content and some cool new features that the launch version didn’t come with. As a JRPG there are tons of hours to sink into here. But because this isn’t an online game it will eventually come to an end which means it’s totally possible to beat it in a reasonable amount of time.
If you’ve never played a Dragon Quest game before but you do like JRPGs, give the trailer a watch and see if this hooks you.
Sea Of Thieves
- Cost if purchased: $31.99
- Where to play: PC, Console, Cloud
Arrrrggggh mateys! Set sail for the high seas with friends and seek out treasure the likes of which ye’ve never seen. Sea of Thieves is a multiplayer online pirate game, complete with a story campaign fit for any aspiring pirate. Total War: Warhammer III
- Cost if purchased: $53.99
- Where to play: PC
This next game is one of the best games on Game Pass if you’re really into strategy games. Total War: Warhammer III is the latest game in the series having released back in February of this year. And it was a day one Game Pass release no less. In Total War: Warhammer III, you can play as 10 legendary lords, and play through multiple modes throughout the game.
Including online co-op with another player, Xbox local multiplayer with 2-8 players, and online multiplayer with 2-8 players. The game also supports Xbox achievements and Xbox cross-platform multiplayer, as well as cloud saves so you can transfer your progress.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
- Cost if purchased: $9.99 or Requires EA Play subscription
- Where to play: PC, Console, Cloud
Rounding out this list is Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, a single-player experience action & adventure game with both RPG and souls-like gameplay. You can level up your lightsaber skills and use the force powers as you progress your character throughout the game. Engage in challenging boss fights as Cal Kestis, a former Jedi padawan in hiding after the Great Jedi Purge and the formation of the Galactic Empire.
Though the game was released in 2019, it’s still one of the best games you can play on Game Pass right now. Though you will either need to buy it or have an EA Play subscription as part of Game Pass to play it. Luckily, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate comes with EA Play, so you won’t have to have two subscriptions going.
