Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade/Episode INTERmission
The original Final Fantasy VII Remake launched in 2020, but this year Sony released the upgraded version of the game for PS5. Titled Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, the game is no different from the original when it comes to the actual content within the game. You do however get upgraded visuals and a faster frame rate option thanks to the PS5 hardware.
More importantly though, Intergrade comes with the new Episode INTERmission DLC which is new content. In this DLC you get to play as two new characters. Yuffie and Sonon. Though Sonon is more of a backup character and you can’t directly control him the way you can with Barret, Tifa, and Aerith as the main controlled character.
If you don’t already own the PS4 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake, then you can pick up the Intergrade version which comes with the Yuffie DLC as part of the bundle. If you do own the PS4 version, you get to upgrade to the PS5 version for free. You then pay just $20 for the Yuffie DLC.
In Episode INTERmission, you set out as Yuffie, coming to Midgar while working with Avalanche to infiltrate Shinra and steal its powerful new Ultimate Materia. It’s a wild and crazy ride that is definitely worth experiencing. Especially if you’ve played the original Final Fantasy VII from the 90s and you want a super dose of nostalgia.
Yakuza: Like A Dragon
Yakuza: Like A Dragon is the latest game in the long-running RPG series from SEGA. While it has been out for months in the US and more than a year in Japan, the PS5 version of the game just launched on March 2, making it a perfect game for this list.
This version takes advantage of all the upgrades and enhancements the PS5 has to offer. So expect better visuals and better frame rates. The story follows a completely new protagonist named Ichiban Kasuga instead of the well-known (and loved) Kazuma Kiryu.
It also takes a slightly different approach to combat. Moving from the action-based beat ’em up style combat to a turn-based style combat that is generally seen with JRPG titles. It still carries many of the same quirks as other Yakuza titles though.
So you can rest assured that it hasn’t abandoned the loveable weirdness that helped make those games so popular among fans. There’s also 15 mini-games that are absolutely worth playing if you need a departure from the main game every now and then. Which means you will have PLENTY of hours of gameplay with this title.
The entire game can be played solo, but it does also feature online play, which you will need a PlayStation Plus subscription to access.
Elden Ring
Elden Ring is the latest FromSoftware game coming from Bandai Namco. Which means if you’re up for a brutal challenge then this is the game for you. Those who loved previous FromSoftware games will also want to check it out if they haven’t already done so.
Like those past games, Elden Ring delivers you up to a smattering of difficult boss fights and powerful weapons and armor. Unlike those past games though, Elden Ring takes place in a massive open world environment. Which means you can explore a lot more and doing so is encouraged. Because you never know what you might find. For many, this is easily going to be 2022’s game of the year. And it would be well-deserved. As this is definitely one of the best PS5 games to play right now.
Chorus
Chrous is the latest game from Deep Silver and is a sprawling space game where you play as a powerful being named Nara. Together with your sentient ship Forsaken, you embark on a mission to destroy your creators.
But the fight won’t be easy. That’s why you’ll need to embrace the all-powerful weaponry that you have at your disposal. As you progress through the game you can enhance your ship with new weapons, while upgrading your own skills and stats to take down tougher enemies.
If you like space games with gorgeous and enthralling combat, don’t miss out on Chorus. It’s also available for PS4 in addition to PS5. So if you’re still on the older console you can play it.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
- Price: $69
- Where To Buy: Amazon
If you like Borderlands then you’ll love Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. It follows the same formula of first-person shooter with elements of RPG mixed. Allowing you a wide array of character abilities via each class’s skill trees. Although this is a Borderlands spin-off and not part of the main series, many of the familiar traits are there.
Of course it puts its own spin on things too. For starters, you get to choose from more classes than in the Borderlands games. And once you reach a certain level you can even unlock a second class to mix with your initial choice. Expanding your skill tress and abilities.
Part of the game also takes place on a game board. As Tiny Tina runs a D&D game with a few friends and you, the player, are the newbie joining their latest adventure. These are just a couple of the changes, but there are more to take in. Luckily, one thing that hasn’t changed is the game’s signature comedic dialogue.
Rest assured, there are plenty of gut busting moments that will have your ribs hurting from too much laughter. The game also features local and online co-op, so you can enjoy this game with friends.
SIFU
SIFU is a brand-new release for PS4 and PS5, and is a martial arts action game filled with immensely tough combat and an intriguing story. The game has officially released as of today.
In SIFU, you take on the role of a young kid who witnesses the death of their father. You seemingly die as well, but thanks to a special talisman in your possession you can come back to life. You then spend years training to seek out revenge on those who brought you pain and took your father’s life.
Gorgeous locales and thrilling martial arts combat make this a must-have.
Tales Of Arise
Tales Of Arise is the latest game in the long running line of Tales JRPG titles. While it has many elements of the classic Tales gameplay that fans have come to know and love, it also features new mechanics to make things interesting and more exciting.
One of its most notable features it the dynamic action combat. Which lets you control a team of diverse and powerful heroes each with their own skills. While you will primarily control one particular character, you can enlist the help of the other heroes in battle to work together as a team.
With gorgeous graphics, hours of gameplay, and a rich story, you’ll find yourself on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Normally this game goes for $59.99 but it’s on sale right now for $49.99. So it’s not a bad time to pick it up.
Ratchet And Clank: Rift Apart
Ratchet And Clank: Rift Apart is a must-play game even if you’ve never played any of the previous titles in the franchise. For one, it makes use of the cool new features on the DualSense controller. Something which not many games on the PS5 currently do.
Beyond that though, it’s just a fun game to play. There’s a wonderful story and gameplay overall leaves you feeling satisfied. It’s a title you can dive into and easily go blow through hours of it. Losing track of time because of how much fun you’re having.
Your job is to stop an interdimensional robot who aims to destroy cross-dimensional worlds. You’ll acquire new weapons and power ups that weren’t feature in previous games, and there’s even a gun which can bring items into the game world from other dimensions. Like the giant robot dinos from Horizon: Zero Dawn.
This is also a game that’s rated E for Everyone, which means it’s a cool game for players of a younger age. Compared to a lot of other games on this list, which are really not kid-friendly.
Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy
This was hands down one of the best games of the year and certainly one of the most fun. If you haven’t played it yet, it’s highly recommended for the endearing story alone. While this is a game about fictional super heroes who defend the galaxy from otherworldly threats, it’s also a story about friendship and the bonds that you forge. And how you grow alongside each other to build even stronger bonds.
Of course, there’s some really excellent combat in the game too. And while it might not be as challenging as some prefer, there’s enough of a challenge to keep you on your toes. Overall, Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy was a wild ride through space that delivered fun of epic proportions. Which is why we gave it a glowing review.
Normally this game costs $60, but Amazon currently has it on sale for $40. So now is the time to pick it up.
Demon’s Souls
Rounding out our list is probably the best PS5 game out right now. And is likely to be one of the best PS5 games of the console’s life cycle.
This version of Demon’s Souls is a faithful remake of the original that released for the PS3. And although there have been a few changes here and there, such as the overhauled graphics and a handful of different things like in-game items that weren’t available before, most of the game stays true to the original.
Combat is still punishing. And each encounter you finish is immensely rewarding. If you fancy the difficult games that come with a deep sense of accomplishment in knowing that it will be too hard for some to complete, don’t miss this one.
Once you get the hang of things, combat is extremely fun and you’ll no doubt spend hours replaying the game with new classes or trying out new tactics to beat certain encounters. Not to mention seeking out new and powerful gear to help you on the crazy journey of trying to get a platinum trophy.
