All download links go to the app’s Google Play Store listing. Users are always recommended to download apps from Google Play or an authorized app store.
Google Photos
- Price: Free to download
- In-app purchases: No
- Size: Varies with device
- Google Play rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Despite the fact Google Photos will no longer offer free unlimited storage from June next year, this is probably the best gallery option for most people. Why? Well, you will still get 15GB of free online storage, and can expand that for a small monthly fee. You can keep all your photos and videos in one place, and don’t have to worry about backing anything up, as the app will do that for you. The moment you get a new device and log in, everything will be waiting for you.
On top of that, Google Photos comes with a great set of features. You can quickly find specific images just by searching for them, while the app can also group people based on their features. The app also has great editing tools for both images and videos, especially after a recent update took place. To top it all off, the UI design of this app is excellent. It is, without a doubt, one of the best gallery apps for Android.
Simple Gallery
- Price: Free to download
- In-app purchases: No
- Size: 14MB
- Google Play rating: 4.6 out of 5 stars
Simple Gallery comes in both regular and Pro variants. Considering getting the Pro version, as the free one isn’t supported anymore. For a small, one-time fee, you can get an excellent gallery app that will serve you moving forward. Simple Gallery is one of the best gallery apps I’ve personally came across, and one I’ve been using on my devices for a while now. It doesn’t only offer a very simple, and sleek UI, but it comes with tons of features as well.
This app allows you to customize its UI, which is not something you’ll see very often. It also comes with great editing tools, and various other features. You can make use of a recycle bin here, if you want, and even choose where you’d like to place it. If you want names of images to appear on top of them, just so you know what you’re looking at, that is also doable. The app is filled with excellent features.
Piktures
- Price: Free to download
- In-app purchases: $0.99-$6.49
- Size: Varies with device
- Google Play rating: 3.6 out of 5 stars
If you want a gallery that will allow you to backup your images and videos to a cloud, and get you direct access, Piktures is the way to go. You can easily connect this app to Google Drive, for example, and keep all your stuff backed up, while having access to it via the app. What also goes in Piktures’ favor is its design. This is one of the best-looking gallery apps in the Play Store, and it’s a joy to use.
The app even offers you a way to hide your private content, and it comes with a compelling photo editor. This app also serves as a GIF player, and even an animated GIF maker. That is not something that many gallery apps can say for themselves, that’s for sure. On top of everything, the app is also a QR code scanner. There are tons of additional features available here.
Slidebox
- Price: Free to download
- In-app purchases: No
- Size: 2.8MB
- Google Play rating: 4.2 out of 5 stars
Slidebox is one of the most unique gallery apps available for Android. It offers a rather unique way for you to organize your photos, a Tinder-like sorting, if you will. You can scroll through your photos in full screen and swipe away to organize them. It’s also possible to swipe up to delete unwanted photos, or pick an album to sort them into. You can also compare similar and duplicate photos and quickly delete them with a single swipe.
You can actually use Slidebox with another Android gallery app, if you want. The developer actually encourages this. You can use this app to simply organize photos, which you can then access through another app, neatly sorted thanks to Slidebox. You can still use Slidebox as a normal gallery as well, even if you don’t plan on using its sorting abilities. This app’s UI is quite minimal, it stays out of the way, which is a good thing.
Amazon Photos
- Price: Free to download
- In-app purchases: No
- Size: Varies with device
- Google Play rating: 4.6 out of 5 stars
Amazon Photos is a great replacement for Google Photos, especially if you’re an Amazon Prime user. If you are, using this gallery app is a no brainer, as you’ll get unlimited storage for your photos. Without it, you have 5GB of free storage, courtesy of Amazon. Amazon Photos app is still not as compelling as Google Photos, in our opinion, but it’s sure a great app, and a solid alternative.
Just like on Google Photos, you can order photo prints via this application. There is also an option that will remove photos from your phone, knowing that they’re stored on the cloud, via the app. Amazon Photos will keep your photos in full size as the originals, while there are also some additional features available. This app, needless to say, has excellent integration with other Amazon products.
Gallery Vault
- Price: Free to download
- In-app purchases: $0.99-$48.99
- Size: 17MB
- Google Play rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars
If you like to keep your photos and video under lock and key, the Gallery Vault app may be just right for you. This app puts great focus on encryption and privacy. This app can even hide its app icon, so that it’s not visible in the app list. It allows you to import private images and videos in its secure vault, so that nobody will know they even exist, let alone try and access them.
The app’s UI is also quite simple, and easy to use. The app does support locking its content via a fingerprint, though you can also use a pattern unlock or PIN, of course. The app even goes as far as to support a fake passcode. By setting that up, the app can show people fake content. This is an amazing feature if you need / want to show your gallery to someone, but not its full contents.
A+ Gallery
- Price: Free to download
- In-app purchases: $0.99-$19.99
- Size: 7.8MB
- Google Play rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
A+ Gallery is an excellent choice if you’ve switched from iOS, and are missing Apple’s gallery offering. This app is made with the iOS design philosophy in mind, and the developer is not trying to hide it. That being said, it works great on Android, and it looks great a the same time. The design of the app itself is great, it’s clean, minimalistic, and it puts great focus on the content itself.
A+ Gallery can automatically organize your photos into albums, and you can hide some albums as well, if you want. You can search for photos and videos by date, location, and even image color, if you want. There’s also an option to hide photos and videos you don’t want others to see, as the app offers a password-locked secure vault. You can actually manage your photos from Facebook, Dropbox, and Amazon Cloud Drive via this app.
Gallery
- Price: Free to download
- In-app purchases: $3.99-$5.99
- Size: 10MB
- Google Play rating: 4.8 out of 5 stars
This app is simply called ‘Gallery.’ Don’t let this simplistic name trick you, as it’s a great app. Gallery comes from Photo Gallery Tools, and it’s one of the most simplistic gallery offerings out there, which is a good thing. The app’s UI looks stunning, and that only gives the app more appeal. You’ll be able to organize your photos into tiles of different sizes, all you need to do is find one that suits you.
The app allows you to search for images, GIFs, videos, and albums. You can easily share your images and videos via this app, while the photo manager feature allows you to rename, delete, share, and edit pictures, videos, and GIFs. A dark mode is available for this application, and it’s a pitch black one, which is great. On top of that, the photo slideshow feature is also available.
PhotoMap Gallery
- Price: Free to download
- In-app purchases: $1.34-$3.99
- Size: Varies with device
- Google Play rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars
PhotoMap Gallery app comes with its own set of unique features. This app is a little bit different than your regular gallery app. The app allows you to view your photos and videos in a rather interesting way. This app works best if your photos have geo positions, as it can place them in the places they were taken. This app allows you to track your trips and day-to-day life with the integrated geo tracker.
You can also view your photos in a clear calendar view by using PhotoMap Gallery. If you like AR (Augmented Reality), this app actually offers you a chance to see your photos in AR view. The app even comes with a diary which allows you to jot down some thoughts and facts. You can change the location of your photos by simply dragging them into a different place. 1Gallery
- Price: Free to download
- In-app purchases: $1.49-$3.49
- Size: 65MB
- Google Play rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars
1Gallery is yet another gallery app that deserves to be on this list. First and foremost, this app looks really nice. It’s extremely simple, and in the main view, you can see your photos sorted by dates, similar to what Google Photos is offering. This app is also really good for video editing, well, simplistic edits, such as trimming videos. It also has some photo-editing features built-in.
You can create new folders for your albums, copy images back and forth, while memory cards are supported.
