2023 was the year of the AI image, and 2024 is the year of the AI video. The moment OpenAI unveiled Sora, the writing has been on the wall. Now, we’re seeing a slew of AI video generators hitting the market, and it’s doing nothing to fight our growing fears. Well, TikTok owner ByteDance has just launched an AI video generator named Faceu.
Just like with AI-generated images, we’re seeing more examples of AI-generated videos popping up all over the internet. This can lead to some major issues with misinformation in the long run. Also, let’s not forget about the filmmakers who’ll be made obsolete because of the technology. Sure, we see videos of sleeping women morphing into dogs, but the technology is only going to get better as time goes on.
ByteDance has a new AI video generator
Like it or not, ByteDance has been the company behind much of the video creation going on nowadays, thanks to TikTok. So, it’s a bit odd to see it contributing to a market that could negatively affect video creators. The app is called Faceu, and it’s currently available on the iOS App Store. There’s no word on when an Android version will be available.
At the moment, we don’t have much information on this app, as it’s exclusive to China. What we know is that it allows people to “create” videos from text prompts. We’re sure that it won’t be for any serious applications. When it comes to many of the AI image and video apps, they’re mostly for frivolous social media posts. So, if you see content from this new app, it will most likely be on a TikTok feed or Instagram once it makes it out of China.
As time goes on, we’re sure that it will make it to more markets. So, we’ll all be able to see what soul-less videos the internet will be able to come up with.
