Anyone who can’t get enough of Netflix murder mysteries – which is a large percentage of the subscriber base, based on what we’ve seen recently – never has to wait too long for their next fix, with Triptych the latest global sensation to make excellent use of the streaming service’s current genre of choice.

Per FlixPatrol, the Spanish-language investigative adventure has surged to become one of the Top 10 most-watched TV shows in 58 countries around the world. When you couple that with The Strays immediately becoming the number two top-viewed feature on the global charts, then you can’t help but be impressed with how the production line keeps churning them out.

That means Netflix’s best-performing new originals of the week so far are both mystery thrillers, as if you need any more indicators that diving deep into a web of lies, intrigue, and deceit is a surefire method of finding instantaneous acclaim. What makes Triptych all the more engaging is that it’s inspired by true events, but maintains the veil of secrecy by failing to go into specifics.

The story finds a women taking her doctor hostage and being killed during the subsequent police standoff, only for identical forensic agent Rebecca to arrive on the scene. She knows Aleida’s name, birthday, and they even share the same DNA. Digging deeper into the earth-shattering revelations, it turns out that there’s even a third sibling.

Imagine the acclaimed documentary Three Identical Strangers, except repositioned as a fictional flight of fancy, and you’re someway to getting a handle on Triptych.
