Three dead in Oklahoma as father kills son, dog, and self, in latest string of grisly incidents affecting the family

A harrowing incident has left the Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, community in shock, as 58-year-old Rodney Shippy is believed to have fatally shot his 10-year-old autistic son, Logan, and the family dog before taking his own life.

According to the Broken Arrow Police Department, the bodies were discovered during a welfare check prompted by concerns over the prolonged disappearance of his 20-year-old daughter, Alyssa, whose remains were also found in the home, according to Oklahoma news outlet KJRH.

Alyssa was last seen in November 2024. Over the following months, relatives, particularly those residing out of state, grew increasingly concerned due to the lack of communication. Despite their worries, no missing person report was filed until May 2025.

The investigation into the deaths of Alyssa, Logan, and Rodney is ongoing. Authorities have not yet determined the exact timeline of the tragic events or how Alyssa died.

A series of tragedies

The recent murder-suicide is just the latest in a series of devastating deaths that have plagued the Shippy family over the past few years. In August 2022, Rodney’s wife, Lisa Shippy, died by suicide in the same residence. Just months later, Lisa’s mother, Diane Carpenter, was murdered by her husband, who then took his own life during a police standoff.

Neighbors described the Shippy home as deteriorating and uninhabitable, noting Rodney’s increasing isolation following his wife’s death. Financial hardships may have compounded his distress. Public records indicate the home faced foreclosure due to over $135,000 in unpaid mortgage principal.

The Broken Arrow Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding these deaths. As the community mourns, this incident underscores the critical need for mental health support and intervention in times of crisis.
