Threads is rolling out a feature that took Twitter a Decade to do

Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg announced on Threads today that it is rolling out the ability to Edit Threads today. As well as posting Voice Threads. And it’s available on both iOS and Android, as well as the web, right now.

The Voice Threads doesn’t appear to be live just yet, at least not for me. But the ability to edit is available. If you’re not seeing it on your device, make sure to close the app and swipe it out of memory and then re-open it. I was only seeing it on one phone and not the other til I did this.

So how does the Edit button work on Threads? Well, basically the same as it does on Twitter or X. Once you post something on Threads, you can then go through tap on the three dots in the corner. You’ll see an option for “Edit”. There’s also a timer next to that, because you can only edit the Thread for the next five minutes.

Threads has taken a different approach, to edited Threads however. Instead of letting you see older versions of the same Thread, you will see an icon next to the three dots – that looks like a pen drawing a circle – which tells you that this post was edited when you click on it. And that’s it. No option to see what the original Thread was. It’s an interesting choice, but probably the best one.

Threads continues to roll out features iteratively

Since Threads launched back in July, Meta has continued to roll out more and more features to the service. When it did launch, there was quite a bit missing. And well, there still is. For instance, search only worked for finding users, not posts. That is now available, though it is still limited.

It’s a little surprising to see that the Edit button came this soon however. I would have expected it to be a bit further down on Threads list of features to add. We do know that they are working on a new Trending Topics page, as it was leaked by Threads engineers themselves, on Threads.

A lot of these features are server-side, so they are just waiting for a flip to be flipped, over at Meta.
