Meta-owned social media platform, Threads, recently hit the milestone of 320 million monthly active users. No wonder, the company is pushing new features left and right to boost user engagement. More recently, the app was updated with the post-scheduling feature. Now, Threads is getting a new ‘media’ tab and photo tagging abilities.
Threads adds a ‘media’ tab and a photo tagging feature similar to Instagram
In a post on Threads, Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, said that the new media tab feature allows others to see all your photos and videos in one place. To catch you up, Threads’ rivals X and Bluesky already have this feature for quite some time. Though BlueSky’s media tab only includes photos, a recent update to the app has added an extra tab just for videos.
Similar to X and BlueSky, the new media tab is visible on a user’s Threads profile. Mosseri further notes that the feature was “a long overdue request from the community.” Threads is also adding a photo tagging feature similar to Instagram. Before you publish a photo on Threads, you can use the new option to tag other users. Do note that the tagging feature is not available for videos.
The new ‘media’ tab and photo tagging features are rolling out globally to the Threads app users alongside the recently announced “markup” tool. Last week, Mosseri noted that this tool lets you “easily add your take on someone else’s post.”
Threads has been getting new features quite frequently in recent months
Besides the photo tagging feature, custom feeds, AI-powered summaries for hot topics, and more have been added to Threads in the past few months. We expect Meta to constantly add new features in the coming months to keep up with the increased competition in the social media space. Moreover, it’s important to note that Threads will eventually display ads down the line.
