After taking a look at the Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time, you might think that it has terrible durability. After all, the original Switch and Switch OLED feel fragile, and we imagine the Switch 2 does as well. It’s also a very thin handheld console with controllers that pop off easily with enough effort.
In other words, the Nintendo Switch 2 looks like it would have the durability of a piece of glassware. Interestingly, the Switch 2 seems to hold up well. Zack Nelson from the JerryRigEverything channel on YouTube ran a durability test on Nintendo’s new handheld, and the results are honestly quite surprising. The Nintendo Switch 2 launched on June 5, and you can currently buy it through most retailers. Although you may run into stock issues.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has pretty good durability when it comes to structural damage
While it hurts to watch, you should definitely check out the durability video. If nothing else, it serves as an eye-opening experience, learning just what kind of damage your brand-new Nintendo Switch 2 can stand up to.
As it turns out, any damage that the Switch 2 received during the gauntlet it was exposed to was mostly cosmetic. That’s still not great if you want your stuff to remain looking pristine. Having said that, you can feel confident that it’ll be harder to damage the structural integrity of the console, which could ultimately lead to it breaking.
One major point of concern has been the little pins that connect to the Joy-Con controllers. A lot of people have been worried that these might break easily. Nelson seems to have put this to the test, repeatedly trying to basically bend the Joy-Con controllers away from the console. He pushes them towards the screen several times until they disconnect. It’s at this point that you’re sure the pins will break. Yet, they survive. This is extremely good news for clumsy folk.
At the end of the day, there’s a clear message. The Nintendo Switch 2 will hold up well in everyday life. Does that mean you should be careless with it? No. You should still try to handle it with care. At least you can rest assured the Joy-Con pins won’t break easily.
