Her response was a succinct “I don’t care.”
Nothing says “mature leadership” quite like the White House press secretary dissolving into giggles when asked about her boss’s obsession with a pop star’s hotness level.
Karoline Leavitt, the administration’s 27-year-old spokesperson, apparently thought it hilarious when confronted with Donald Trump‘s bizarrely adolescent fixation on Taylor Swift’s appearance – proving that the childish apple doesn’t fall far from the tantrum-throwing tree.
During a press briefing, Fox News’ Peter Doocy brought up Trump’s recent comments on Swift, asking what exactly the former president meant when he claimed that the singer was “no longer hot.” Before Doocy even finished his question, Leavitt started giggling. The kind of reaction you wouldn’t expect from the spokesperson of the United States president being asked about an undeniably sexist and juvenile remark.
When she finally composed herself, Leavitt offered a half-hearted explanation, saying Trump was referring to Swift’s political views and how they’ve supposedly affected her popularity. And then, with the practiced finesse of someone who couldn’t care less about the dignity of her office, she moved on. No pushback against the absurdity of the question. No acknowledgment of how inappropriate it is for a sitting president to publicly comment on the physical attractiveness of a private citizen.
Why is Donald Trump so fixated on Taylor Swift? It’s not like she’s spending her Eras tour stops writing diss tracks about him. For the most part, Swift has kept her political commentary focused on broader issues—voter registration, LGBTQ+ rights, and supporting Democratic candidates like Kamala Harris. Sure, she’s criticized Trump in the past, notably in her 2020 Netflix documentary Miss Americana, but it’s not like she’s dragging him onstage between performances of “All Too Well.”
Trump, on the other hand, seems to have made Swift his personal punching bag. His latest jab—claiming on Truth Social that Swift is “no longer hot” since he publicly declared his hatred for her—is just the latest in a series of bizarre, petty comments. Let’s not forget his September rant where he claimed to prefer Brittany Mahomes (yes, Patrick Mahomes’ wife) over Swift and accused the pop star of being booed at the Super Bowl. This brings us back to Leavitt, who somehow managed to make Trump’s already gross remarks even more embarrassing.
