“For whatever reasons, Ray — call it fate, call it luck, call it karma — I believe that everything happens for a reason.” Dr. Venkman’s words still ring true today, especially today because the brand-new trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire has dropped! No, that’s not Batman’s Mr. Freeze terrorizing New York City at the conclusion of the new footage. Nevertheless, the fans are excited to see what awaits audiences next spring when the sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife drops in theaters. @2000snostalgia_ writes in the comments section (via YouTube):

Looks good! I can’t wait. I love how they keep the doomsday vibe like from the original movies. Although I was hoping for the return of Vego from the second Ghostbusters movie. But I’m excited for a new original ghost villain!

The YouTuber is referring to Vigo the Carpathian from Ghostbusters II (1989). And while the villain wasn’t featured in the Frozen Empire footage, the OG actors Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson are all back for the Afterlife follow-up! @MennieMedia writes:

Loved seeing the old and new cast back in action! And Paul Rudd laughing like Santa? I’d probably do the same if I got to get in some sweet proton pack Ghostbustin’

The Frozen Empire madness begins with the stormy ice-cold threat approaching the unsuspecting masses at Deno’s Wonder Wheel in Coney Island, and freezing everything in its path, as it nears the Big Apple. The latest sequel in the franchise will not be helmed by Afterlife’s director Jason Reitman, however. Instead, Gil Kenan takes the reins.

The Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire footage resonates with Bananarama’s hit song Cruel Summer — famous for its place in The Karate Kid mythology. And while it’s cool to catch a glimpse of the sequel’s chilly threat, it’s even more satisfying to see actors Paul Rudd, Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon and Logan Kim from Ghostbusters: Afterlife have all returned to reprise their respective roles. Sadly, Sigourney Weaver will reportedly not return as Dana to join the other OGs. But how cool is it to see Egon’s (Harold Ramis) daughter Callie (Coon) suited up as a Ghostbuster this time around? @FlippinGurtrude writes:

Completely unexpected, but so excited!

@piercedolgener7244 adds:

I can’t wait for this movie it literally gives me chills 😂🥶

The Afterlife sequel was originally slated to open this December in theaters, but the SAG-AFTRA strike delayed Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire until the spring of 2024. @matthewjarek3026 writes:

“I like that they are being creative with the premise and ghosts in this movie. I was afraid that the Afterlife sequel would just be a rehash of what the previous movies did, but this looks surprisingly unique and original. This is how you do sequels to popular franchises, movie studios. Don’t just do the same things over and over again. Try new things while being respectful of what came before. Can’t wait!”

Newcomers Patton Oswalt and Kumail Nanjiani appear to be helping the Ghostbusters throughout the first-look footage, but, sadly, there are no signs of Annie Potts, William Atherton or Rick Moranis. Potts’ Character Janine is confirmed to return in Frozen Empire. If the other two OG Ghostbusters actors are going to show up in Frozen Empire, it isn’t given away in the trailer. However, the biggest thrill might arguably come from the introduction of the Death Chill — a brand-new threat in the film franchise. @SiahYahu writes:

YES!!! New unique villains for the Ghostbusters 🎉 YES 🔥 this is what they need to do going forward New ghost villains and bring back some of the villains from the animated series.

@RyanLec84 adds:
