In a surprising turn of events, Google extended its beta program with an update out of the blue. This is bad news for people who wanted out of the program. Well, there’s a workaround that will help people exit the Android 12L beta program.

Beta software isn’t for everyone, as it’s often buggy and unstable. It’s tough enough using the beta version of a program, but the beta version of an entire operating system can really cause problems. This is why it’s only recommended that you use beta software if you’re up to the risks.

If you want to exit the Android 12L beta, you’ll need to make a hard choice

The people who are still in the beta program are kind of in there against their will. While they’re free to get out at any point, doing so will erase all of the data on their phones. That’s one thing that Google warns you about before you enter the beta program.

People who have a separate Pixel device used for testing the beta program shouldn’t have an issue. However, there are those who installed the beta program on their daily drivers, so they’re not inclined to trash all of their data for a stable version of Android.

There’s a workaround, however

If you don’t want to sacrifice all of the data on your phone, there’s a way that you can avoid this. However, this won’t work for everyone. According to 9To5Google, there’s a way to get the most stable version of Android 12L on your phone, but you’ll need to have some technical know-how. Not only that but this will only work if you haven’t updated to the latest OPR3 beta. That version locks you out from exiting the beta program.

You will need to manually flash the 12L OTA onto your device. This is a process that will involve a computer and additional software. If you’re not familiar with that, then you might just have to wait this out. Flashing software onto your device can wind up bricking it.
