It all happened so fast; Elon Musk changed Twitter’s name to X. This transition involved erecting a large flashing X sign on the Twitter HQ. Well, it looks like Elon Musk is being billed for the sign more than he thought, according to BBC.
In case you don’t know, just recently, Elon had a giant X sign added to the top of Twitter HQ. From the get-go, this was met with criticism, as the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection opened an investigation into this sign. Elon didn’t get the right permit to have the sign put up.
Not only that, but the sign was obnoxiously bright. It shined light brightly on the building across the street. Not only was it bright, but it also flashed rapidly. There was no consideration for people with photo-sensitive conditions like epilepsy.

Thankfully, the sign was taken down, but it’s still costing the billionaire money. It’s no doubt that the bill for putting up the sign was paid from Elon’s wallet. However, the city of San Francisco has a new bill for him.
While Elon didn’t get a permit to put up the sign, the city is still charging him the cost of getting the permit. He was also charged for the removal of the sign. We’re not sure if these fees are more than the increase in the building’s electricity bill.
This is the latest in a long line of publicity stunts that seem to do the opposite of what Elon wants. Naturally, you’d think that Elon would want people to take the platform more seriously. However, with each stunt he pulls, it gets harder not to treat him and the company as a joke.
In any case, the sign is gone, but Elon is still going forward with the new name for Twitter. While that’s the case, we’re still waiting to see what Elon and Linda Yaccarino have in store for the platform going forward.
