Some of you might not want it to be true, but Samsung appears all set to launch the Galaxy S24 series with an Exynos processor. Reputed tipster Ice Universe can “100% guarantee” that the next-gen Galaxy flagships will use the Exynos 2400 chip, at least in some markets. The source expects buyers in Europe and parts of Asia to get the Korean firm’s in-house chipset. The US version of the Galaxy S24 will get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Rumors about Samsung returning to Exynos next year have been around for some time now. The company reportedly wants to cut manufacturing costs by using its in-house processors in some markets rather than shipping the Galaxy S24 flagships with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon chip globally. The Korean firm did so for several years until this year when it launched the Galaxy S23 series with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 globally.

According to reports, this decision cost Samsung 50 percent more money on processors. Using Exynos in some markets would lower its net spend on processors and help save some money, which the company is said to use to bump up the RAM and storage of the Galaxy S24 phones while keeping the prices unchanged. We are expecting a minimum of 12GB RAM and 256GB storage for all three models, with the Ultra model going up to 16GB RAM.

However, these upgrades may not be enough for Samsung to win back the trust of consumers. Exynos processors have historically performed worse than competing Snapdragon solutions. They have been poor in raw performance, power consumption, and thermal management. Everyone appreciated the Korean firm’s decision to go all-in with Snapdragon for the Galaxy S23 series. Unsurprisingly, not many expected it to return to Exynos just a year later.

Samsung has improved its Exynos processor lineup

On Samsung’s part, it appears confident that it has left behind Exynos’ woes and is ready to start afresh. There have been several reports that the Korean firm has improved its advanced semiconductor processes (4nm and 5nm). The improvements are big enough to give TSMC a run for its money. The Taiwanese firm manufactured the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and will also manufacture the Gen 3 solution, a competing chip to Samsung’s Exynos 2400.

It now remains to be seen whether Samsung’s decision to use Exynos in 2024 flagships will backfire. There’s already an outrage among its fans and smartphone enthusiasts. No one seems to be ready to go back to Exynos after being impressed by the Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S23. The Galaxy S24 series should debut in early 2024, so there’s plenty of time for more leaks and rumors.
