The Pixel Watch was almost the best watch on the market last year, as noted in our review of it (click here to read that). One of the things keeping it from being the best smartwatch was the battery life. However, according to 9To5Google, the Pixel Watch 2 might have better battery life than its predecessor.

The Pixel Watch had a lot going for it: beautiful design, optimized software, seamless integration with Pixel phones, timely updates, and several useful features. One of the things dragging it down what’s the fact that you’d have to slap it on a charger pretty much every day.

However, 9To5Google obtained several details about the Pixel Watch 2 which may launch in the fall. Just like with the first Pixel Watch, it might actually launch along with the newest Pixel phones. That’s still speculation at this point, so you’ll want to take it with a grain of salt.

We’re still getting bits and pieces of information about the Pixel Watch 2, and we’re starting to paint a picture of how this smartwatch is going to be. Notably, Google is going to be switching chip providers for its next wearable. The first Pixel Watch used Samsung’s Exynos 9110. The next iteration could possibly use the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1.

Qualcomm announced this chip last July, and it’s powering some smartwatches on the market today. According to sources, this change from an Exynos chip to a Snapdragon chip may have a notable impact on the battery life.

The sources are saying that users should expect to get over a full day of battery life with the always-on-display (AOD) turned on. The AOD is the most important part of the conversation, as the original Pixel Watch was able to get over a day but with AOD turned off.

At this point, we’re not completely sure how the battery will be, but we’re all hoping that the Pixel Watch 2 will have improved battery life over the original. Only time will tell, as we are currently reaching the halfway point of the year.
