Last October, Meta launched a Gen Z-focused redesign for Facebook to attract the younger crowd that favors other social apps over its flagship platform. In a similar move, Meta has now announced that it is bringing back the “OG” Facebook experience with a new Friends tab. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg first teased the platform’s return to “OG” Facebook back in January, and the company has now started rolling out the design the a new tab.
Meta is making it easier to connect with your Facebook friends with a new tab
In a blog post, Meta said that connecting with friends has been a part of Facebook since its launch more than a decade ago in 2024. Over the years, the platform has evolved a lot and now offers several new experiences across “Groups, Video, Marketplace, and more, but the magic of friends has fallen away.” However, in the new “OG” Facebook design, Meta is again making it easier to connect with your friends via a dedicated tab for their feed.
The Friends tab in the Facebook app will now display content just from your friends. It doesn’t show any recommended content as opposed to the earlier design, which also houses friend requests, suggestions, and a list of your friends.
The new Friends tab houses a dedicated feed that displays the content, such as reels, photos, stories, posts, and birthdays, but only from your friends. Furthermore, the latest tab contains sections such as friend requests and suggestions.
You can also pin the Friends tab in the Facebook app
Initially, the new Friends tab will be available through the navigation bar on the Home Feed. However, the users will also be able to pin it in the app on their phones. To do it, first download or update the latest version of the Facebook app on your Android or iOS device. Then, tap on your “Profile picture” in the “Home Feed”. Now, hit the “Settings and Privacy” option and select the “Settings” option. Here, tap the “Tab Bar” option and choose “Customize the Tab Bar” option. Finally, select the “Friends” option and pin the bar.
The tech titan announced that Facebook has already started showing the new Friends tab for users in the United States and Canada. The company should roll out the new tab in more countries in the coming weeks.
