The Nothing Phone (1) was able to make a splash when it launched but not in certain markets; the U.S.was one of those markets. However, thanks to a new tweet from Nothing CEO Carl Pei, it seems that this phone will be coming to the states via a testing program.
During all of the hype for the Nothing Phone (1), several people in the United States were excited about it. However, they were disappointed when they found out that the company had no plans to ship to the United States.
This makes a lot of sense. Samsung’s and Apple’s dominance over the US smartphone market makes it extremely difficult to get a foothold in the States. Also, the American smartphone market is tied up in carrier contracts. Why pay $400 for a phone when you can pay a small down payment and small monthty payments to get a more expensive device? These factors, along with others, kept Nothing from launching its first phone in the States.
The Nothing Phone (1) will come to the states via a testing program
Right now, details about this are pretty scarce. Carl Pei just posted a pretty lengthy tweet talking about the Android 13 open beta for the phone. The second half of the Tweet told us that the company “will be extending [the beta] to the US market via a testing program with access to the Nothing Phone (1).”
So, it sounds, it seems that Nothing may send a limited number of units out to select customers. These will have the latest beta pre-loaded. This seems like a good idea.
Recent headlines say that Nothing is planning on launching a future device in the States. So, releasing a handful of Nothing Phone (1) devices to the US users is a nice way to test the waters with the US market before launching the device to the American Market.
Carl Pei capped off the tweet by saying “Stay tuned.” This means that more details about this test will be flooding in as time goes on.
