Nowadays, phones are meant to be everything and anything for you. However, there are those phones that are specialized to be the best at one thing. The MOONDROP MIAD01 is a smartphone that’s designed to be a powerful music player with an Android phone attached, and it finally launched for a pretty reasonable price.
For those who don’t know, MOONDROP is an audio-centric company based in China. It has several lines of audio devices such as headphones, in-ear monitors, TWS earbuds, Etc. The company offers these devices and a wide range of prices, and it specializes in premium audio.
A while back, we got the news that the company was working on a full-fledged Android smartphone that’s custom-made for devout audiophiles. The MOONDROP MIAD01 officially launched, and it comes at a reasonable $399 price tag.
The MOONDROP MIAD01 finally launched
So, it’s hard to escape the fact that it is an audio-centric phone. That being said, it also promises some decent specs that make it a usable Android phone as well. This phone is powered by the decently powerful MediaTek Dimensity 7050 SoC. It won’t give you top-of-the-line performance, but it’s still a pretty beefy player. This is backed up by 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 256GB of UFS3.1 storage. You can also expand the storage up to 2TB with a microSD card.
As for the camera, you’re looking at a dual camera package with a 64-megapixel main camera that’s accompanied by a secondary 8-megapixel camera. Up front, you have a 32-megapixel camera.
The MOONDROP MIAD01 is rocking a 6.7-inch 1080P+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. There’s also an in-display fingerprint scanner. Keeping the lights on, we have a 5,000mAh battery. That’s pretty standard across the industry, and it supports 33W charging.
This phone comes with Android 13 installed, which is one generation behind the current version, so that’s something to keep in mind. Also, MOONDROP boasts a very pure Android experience. You can expect software similar to Stock Android with a beautiful and minimalist icon pack.
What makes this an audiophile phone?
The MOONDROP MIAD01 is a device that’s designed to deliver amazing audio playback for people who really care about their ears. Starting off, we have the very welcomed addition of a 3.5mmSE (single-end) headphone jack. So, right off the bat, this phone does more for the audiophile community than most phones out now. The upcoming Sony Xperia VI is tipped to come with a 3.5mm headphone jack.
That’s not all, as this phone also has a 4.4mm BAL (balanced) headphone jack for people who want a more powerful sound. The 4.4mm jack has 4Vrms output, which is double the 3.5mm’s 2Vrms output.
You’ll be getting some powerful audio to your ears, and you’ll be able to control the volume of that audio using the 100-step volume control. This gives you ultimate control over the volume.
Pushing the audio to your headphones are a pair of quad-channel Cirrus Logic MasterHIFI DACs. These are high-quality DACs, and they will deliver an extremely detailed audio signal to your headphones. They have an impressive dynamic range of 132dB with a 118dB SINAD. The MOONDROP MIAD01 is similar to how LG used to give its V series phones and audio DAC. Only, this one is much more powerful.
Quite the phone!
The MOONDROP MIAD01 is an extremely powerful audio system wrapped in a solid Android smartphone. At $399, this is a great price for such a capable device. The Dimensity 7050, coupled with the 12GB of RAM will provide some good performance while the OLED display should look rather nice. The jury is out on the camera, but most people getting an audiophile phone won’t typically be interested in getting a jaw-dropping camera experience.
The main star of the show is the audio performance, and it looks like this is one of the best phones on the market in terms of audio performance. You can order your unit from HiFiGo.
