Follow Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel on her journey to team up with Captain Monica Rambeau, her alienated niece, and Ms. Marvel, Jersey City’s own teenage Super Hero, in the latest trailer for the upcoming MCU sequel, The Marvels. Released courtesy of Marvel Entertainment, the latest teaser tracks the journey of each character up to this point, as well as revealing some new footage from the team-up outing. Check out the newly released trailer for The Marvels below.
“In Marvel Studios’ The Marvels, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence,” the official synopsis for The Marvels reads. “But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up to learn to work in concert to save the universe as ‘The Marvels.'”
Directed by Nia DaCosta from a screenplay she co-wrote with Megan McDonnell and Elissa Karasik, The Marvels stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel, Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, Zawe Ashton as the Kree warrior Dar-Benn, and Samuel L. Jackson, who reprises his role as Nick Fury.
Other MCU stars such as Saagar Shaikh, Zenobia Shroff, and Mohan Kapur will reprise their respective roles from Ms. Marvel, with Lashana Lynch, Park Seo-joon, Randall Park, Shamier Anderson, Abraham Popoola, Ffion Jolly, Caroline Simonnet, and Jessica Zhou also set to feature.
The Marvels Will Have Direct Connections to the Upcoming Avengers Sequels
The 33rd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Marvels comes as part of Phase Five of the franchise, with director Nia DaCosta and producer Mary Livanos revealing that the Captain Marvel sequel will have a direct connection with the next phase’s Avengers outings, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. And it’s all to do with the bangles.
“You’ll get enough of the story of how and why Dar-Benn has acquired the bangle,” DaCosta said, with Livanos adding that the fact the bangles can “force a temporary hole in space and time to lead to somewhere else” has something to do with it.
Aside from that, DaCosta has promised that The Marvels will be unlike anything seen in the MCU before. “I think superhero fatigue absolutely exists. The biggest difference from the other MCU movies to date is that it’s really wacky, and silly,” she said earlier this month. “The worlds we go to in this movie are worlds unlike others you’ve seen in the MCU. Bright worlds that you haven’t seen before.”
The Marvels is scheduled to be released in the United States on November 10, 2023, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
